HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR ENGLISH LEVEL

11. ________

Study at least two or three hours per week. Learn English through:

Reading — there are graded books in English for your level.

Internet — begin with the activities on this website and on the links page.

Songs in English — take your favorite songs, download the lyrics (the words) from Google and sing them again and again until your neighbors scream: "STOP!!"

DVDs — many films are also in English with subtitles in your language.

Magazines — there are specialized magazines for English students.

Travel — travel motivates you to improve your level because you need English for everything.

12.________

Don't stop for long periods of time such as in the summer and don't do too much! It is also important to study at least 3 hours every week. To progress very well, you should study at least 5 hours per week.

13.________ ___________

Free conversation is necessary. However, it is better to balance conversation with other activities in your classes or outside of your classes. In a "one-to-one" class, you should do all of the homework, reading and vocabulary studying outside of your class and then comment on the homework in the class. It is very important for you to do the homework that your teacher assigns you and it is very important for you to be punctual to your classes.

14.________

It's easier to be constant, disciplined and organized if you have a teacher. It's more difficult to study English alone. Also, it is more difficult to learn how to "speak" English if you don't have an English teacher to speak with.

15.___________

Learning English is your responsibility and not the responsibility of your teacher. You must have initiative in your classes! The teacher cannot learn or study English for you. For example, you often have to study and learn vocabulary alone.

16.____________

If you are deeply motivated and have not much time for learning you can try an intensive English course in a small group and immerse yourself in the language. Additional source of learning is an extra bonus.

A Be constant!

B Try to start early in the morning!

C Make English your hobby and have fun!

D Be as disciplined and organized as possible with your classes!

E Get a teacher or attend a class!

F Be natural and supportive!

G Don't forget about additional courses!

H It is your duty to reach your objectives!

ON THE TRAIL OF ORANGUTANS IN MALAYSIA

Achong is struggling to push our longboat against the current of Borneo's Batang Ai River, so we jump into the water to assist him. "Stay in the boat," he asks, but we ignore him. It's dry season and every ounce of weight is a factor as the longboat scrapes the bottom of the shallow waterway. This is the only time we ignore Achong.

Like other tattoo-covered Iban tribesman, he's a master boatman and this is his territory. The Iban, once fearsome headhunters, are also expert trackers who have turned their talents to trailing one of the world's most fascinating endangered creatures: orangutans.

The ape pursuit takes us to Sri Aman Division, a remote area of Sarawak at the border of Kalimantan, the Indonesian part of Borneo. Borneo and neighboring Sumatra island are the only places the shaggy-haired red ape survives. The chances of seeing them in the wild are increasingly slim. '"There's no guarantee," warns Borneo Adventure in its ad for the Red Ape Trail, the safari that has brought us deep into the Asian island's dense, steamy jungle." Ape numbers arc about 20,000 and constantly declining due to forestry, palm oil crops and poaching."

Far more certain is searing heat, humidity of 80-100% and slippery conditions. "This walk demands a great deal of physical and mental exertion," says Philip Yong, Borneo Adventure's co-founder. "The region is totally isolated from the outside world."

SOME ADVICE ON A HEALTHY LIFE

11. ________

It has long been known that regular exercise is good for our physical health. It can reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease and strokes.

In recent years, studies have shown that regular physical activity also has benefits for our mental health. Exercise can help people with depression and prevent them becoming depressed in the first place. Adults should be active for at least 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes) every week.

12.________

Anyone with depression can get advantage from doing regular exercise, but it's especially useful for people with mild depression, "Any kind of exercise is useful as long as it suits you and you do enough of it," says Dr Cohen. "Exercise should be something you enjoy, otherwise it will be hard to find the motivation to do it regularly."

13.________

To stay healthy, adults should do 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity every week. If you haven't exercised for a while, gradually introduce physical activity into your daily routine. Even a 15-minute walk can help you clear your mind and relax. Any exercise is better than none.

14. ___________

Take part in a team sport, attend classes at a sports centre, or just be more active in your daily routine by walking or cycling instead of travelling by car. Find an activity you can do regularly.

15.________

If you haven't exercised for a long time or are concerned about the effects of exercise on your health, ask your GP about the exercise on special programme. Many GP surgeries across the country prescribe exercise as a treatment for a range of conditions, including depression

16. ___________

If you’re depressed, make time for things you enjoy. What if nothing seems fun anymore? "That's just a symptom of depression," says Cook, a psychiatrist and director of the Depression Research and Clinic Program at UCLA. You have to keep trying anyway.

STEPHEN HAWKING WARNS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE COULD END MANKIND

Professor Stephen Hawking, one of the world's most renowned scientists, has warned that robots and machines with artificial intelligence could one day mean the end of us all. Professor Hawking recently told the British Broadcasting Corporation in an interview that: "The development of full artificial intelligence (AI) could spell the end of the human race." The famous cosmologist made his warning in response to a question about an update to the app he uses to allow him to communicate. Hawking suffers from motor neuron disease (also known as ALS) and needs a special voice synthesizer to talk. The update will be able to predict words he might want to use based on his previous communication.

Hawking said that AI has given many benefits to mankind. He said it is still in its early stages of development, but when it becomes more sophisticated, it could prove a threat to our existence. He said: "It would take off on its own, and re-design itself at an ever increasing rate. Humans, who are limited by slow biological evolution, couldn't compete, and would be superseded." This is not the first time he has issued such a warning. He gave a more chilling warning in April 2014, saying: "One can imagine such technology outsmarting financial markets, out-inventing human researchers, out-manipulating human leaders, and developing weapons we cannot even understand."
