Theme Parks  ( 6th grade)

  • Practical aims:
    • To revise and practice the words on the topic of the lesson;
    • To revise the Present Perfect Tense;
    • To develop the functional skill of speaking with friends on the subject;
  • Educational aims:
    • To learn to speak about pastimes in amusement parks, using active vocabulary;
  • Developing aims:
    • To develop memory, logical thinking, attention
    • To develop the ability to select.
    • To develop interest to different activities and ways to spend free time in themed parks.

Equipment: multimedia blackboard, cards with exercises.

Procedure

The beginning of the lesson

1.Introduction. 

Teacher - Good morning, children! How are you today? I am sure that you  are happy, because today is Friday and the weekends are coming. Am I right? Tell me, please, what do you like doing at the weekends? Where do you usually spend them? Have you ever spent your weekend in an unusual place where you could entertain, have a lot of fun? Look at the board and guess what are these places? 

Class – These are theme parks.

T – Right you are. So, the topic of our lesson is “Weekend in a Theme Park”. Today you will learn to tell your classmates about your free time and things that children can do in parks for entertainment.

2.  Warming Up

TBut first who can tell me, what activities can we perform in a Theme Park?

P1 – We can spend a wonderful time.

P2 – We can rollerblade, eat ice cream, take photos

P3 – And also we can enjoy the roller-coaster 

T – Right you are. We can also do many other things there and we will discuss them today. But tell me, please, have you ever been to a theme park?

P1 – I have never been to the theme park.

P2 – I have already been there.

T – Wonderful! Today I suggest you going to different theme parks all together. Let’s start!

3. Checking of the homework

T -  At home you had to read three texts about famous parks. Open your SB on p.31 and look through them one more time. Let’s check your H\W. The mind map on the board will help us. Here you can see the names of these parks, their location and activities you can find there.. Using the information on it tell me what do you know about each of them?

T – Very nice. 

Main part of the lesson

1.Revision and practicing of active vocabulary on the topic 

T –Let’s have a look at these parks again. Tell me, please, where would you like to go and why?Use the active vocabulary from the column.

Ex,: I would like to visit Asterix Park because it is new. There are many rollercoasters there.( P1,P2…)

2. Listening practice

a)You have just revised the information about some theme parks. And now I suggest you having a small travel. Do you like to travel? Have you ever travelled abroad? Have you ever been to Malaysia? Today you have a chance not only to visit this country but also to enjoy its main attraction - Malaysia Legoland theme park. You are going to watch a video about it, be attentive and try to memorize everything.( video),because you will watch it only once.

Before watching look at the board with new words. Repeat them after me, please.( in chorus after teacher)

b) T – So, watch the video, please. But be very careful as then you will do the exercise on your cards. You will have to complete the sentences with the words from the list. Read them out, please( P1)

T – Did you like the video? Let’s check, how you understood it?

3. Reading practice

T – Have you done it? Who can read me his or her text? (P1,P2) T - Just great. Thank you.

4. Speaking practise

T – To sum the information about this park let’s have some speaking practise. I need two pupils to make up short stories using word clouds and the rest will do another exercise. Imagine, that you have just come back from Universal Theme Park.. You really liked your trip. your friends want to know more about it and they ask you some questions using the information on the board. Who wants to be this traveller?

T- Pupils, are you ready with your stories? We want to listen to them, please.(P2,P3)

 Final part of the lesson

T - Okay! Well!  So, we have done much work today, we have  travelled to the wonderful place. What was it? (Malaysia). Right you are. Did you like it? What did you like the most?(P1,P2)   

 T- Write down your home assignment: Your task is to make up and write short stories  about one of imaginary theme parks using the prompts;

I would like to visit____________.It is located_____________.It is ( descrition)… People can__________ there.

Words to be used: Fairyland, Snowworld Coutry, PuzzleLand, huge, interesting, magical, new, modern, watch favorite cartoons, enjoy rollercoasters, take photos with imaginary characters, travel in future.

T – Who wants to try it? (P1,P2)

T – Just great! Do you have any questions? If no? I want to tell you your marks and to thank for your active work. The lesson is over. Good-bye! Good luck!!!
