Ricky’s Room

      I’m Max. I have an English friend. His name is Ricky. I was in England last summer at his place and I liked it a lot. Ricky’s family has a big two-storeyed house. Some Things the English are Fond of

        The English is a sports nation. Lots of English people do different sports and are fond of playing sport games. You know, of course, that English boys like to play football and hockey. But do you know what games English girls like to play? In England girls usually play netball. They play hockey, too!

  I like to eat very much. Every day we have breakfast, lunch and dinner.

      For breakfast I usually have sandwiches or biscuits and tea. I sometimes eat omelette and sausages. My favourite dish for dinner is chicken (meat/ fish) and potatoes (spaghetti/ rice). I like salad with tomatoes and cucumbers. When I’m thirsty, I drink apple or orange juice or lemonade.

      I’m a sweet tooth, too. I like chocolate, cakes and ice-cream. They are very tasty.

English Meals

       The English have four meals a day: breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner or supper. Breakfast time is between seven and nine, lunch time is between twelve and two, tea is between four and five and dinner or supper is between seven and ten.

       English people like porridge. They usually eat it for breakfast. They like to eat porridge with milk. Sometimes the English prepare bacon and eggs. Children usually have cornflakes with milk for breakfast.

IV NATURE AND ENVIRONMENT. WEATHER

1. Read and translate

      There are 4 seasons in a year. They are spring, summer, autumn and winter. My favourite season is winter. It’s a beautiful season. Everything is white with snow. It’s cold and frosty but we can make a snowman and play snowballs.

V. HOLIDAYS AND TRADITIONS

      There are lots of holidays. In Ukraine people  like celebrating New Year’s Day, Christmas, Women’s Day, Easter and May Day.

      Ukrainian people celebrate New Year and Christmas. We decorate New Year trees with toys, flags and balls. Father Frost and Snow Maiden bring presents to little children. We make postcards for our parents and friends. We wish them Happy New Year and Merry Christmas.

       On the 8th of March we give flowers and presents to our mothers, grandmothers and sisters. We welcome spring on May Day. We usually have picnics with our friends on this day. But my favourite holiday is Easter. My mum makes tasty cakes – pasky and I like painting eggs. We go to the church and have a big family dinner in the evening.

      These are merry holidays.

May Day Traditions

        My name is Sally and I want to tell you about my favourite spring holiday. It’s May Day. We celebrate it on the first of May in England. It’s a very merry holiday. There is usually a big parade of green branches and flowers on this day. They are all symbols of spring.

       In many villages children go to the forest to gather “mayflowers”. They decorate the May Tree  - a high pole - with these flowers and ribbons of different colours. During the holiday we take one of the ribbons and dance round the May Tree. It is a very popular spring tradition.

     Then we choose a May Queen. It is always a very pretty girl in a beautiful dress. She gives prizes to the best dancers. The dream of every girl is to become a May Queen. Once I was a May Queen too.

Christmas in England

       It is the 24th of December. It is Christmas time in England. Jane and Ted love Christmas. They decorate a Christmas tree every year.
