Засідання літературного салону

Тема: A Bard of Love.

Мета: Ознайомити учнів із кращими зразками творів української поезії, присвяченими темі любові, розвивати комунікативну компетенцію учнів та їх поетичні здібності.

A. Warming-Up

1. What is lyric poetry?

2. What kinds of lyric poems do you know?

3. Fill in the rose. Follow the example:

4. What is your favourite kind of lyric poetry and why? (civic, love, landscape philosophical)

5. What most famous English and American poets do you know?

B. Content Anticipation

1. Listen to the famous song "Love Me Do" by J. Lennon, and try to guess the theme of our meeting.

2. What is love? Give your own definition of love.

C. Language Anticipation

1. Imagine that you are in love. What do you feel? Use the vocabulary from the box to describe your feelings.

1. Listen to the poem and express your feelings using the following phrases:

     Минають дні, минають ночі,

Минає літо, шелестить

Пожовкле листя, гаснуть очі,

Заснули думи, серце спить,

І все заснуло, і не знаю,

Чи я живу, чи доживаю,

Чи так по світу волочусь,

Бо вже не плачу й не сміюсь...

Доле, де ти! Доле, де ти?

Нема ніякої,

Коли доброї жаль, Боже,

То дай злої, злої!

Не дай спати ходячому,

Серцем замирати

І гнилою колодою

По світу валятись.

А дай жити, серцем жити

І людей любити,

Страшно впасти у кайдани,

2, Listen to another poem and compare it with the first one. Discuss their similarities and differences. While describing, use the following phrases:

 I liked poem 1 better than poem 2 because ...

I didn't like poem 1 as much as poem 2 because ...

I think poem 1 is as nice as poem 2 because ...

Don’t get married to a rich girl

She will drive way thee

Don’t get married to a poor,

You won’t be able to sleep well,

Better marry to a free will,

To a Cossack fortune.

Let it be, come what may.

If bare, then bare.

But no one bothers you,

Nobody cheers.

If it hurts you and where hurts

When you share your feelings.

E. Reading

1. There are many kinds of love. Can you define them? (Love to a person, love to your family, love to yourself, love to your country.)

Group up and read the poem "Beside the Cottage" by T. Shevchenko. Define what kind of love the poem describes. Why do you think so? Recite the poem in Ukrainian.

BESIDE THE COTTAGE

Beside the cottage cherry-trees are swinging,

Above the cherries Maybugs winging,

Proughmen with their ploughs are homeward heading.

And lassies as they pass are singing,

While mothers wait with suppers ready.

 Beside the collage all the family's eating,

Above, the evening star the sunset's greeting.

The evening meal the daughter serves around,

When mother chides, from where she's seated,

Her voice by singing nightingales is drowned. 

Beside the cottage mother's lullabying

Till little ones in golden slumbers're lying;

She herself beside them falls asleep.

All is quiet, only the girls are vying

With nightingales and can't them quiet keep

Садок вишневий коло хати,

Хрущі над вишнями гудуть,

Плугатарі з плугами йдуть,

Співають ідучи дівчата,

А матері вечерять ждуть.

 Сім’я вечеря коло хати,

Вечірня зіронька встає.

Дочка вечерять подає,

А мати хоче научати,

Так соловейко не дає.

Поклала мати коло хати

Маленьких діточок своїх;

Сама заснула коло їх.

Затихло все, тілько дівчата

Та соловейко не затих.

2. Think and say.

2. Find a good illustration for the poem, or draw one if you can.

3. Memorize the stanza you like best.

F. Writing Your Own Poetry

1. Pair up and make up your own poems concerning love using new techniques: diamond poems and colour poems.

Diamond  poem.

Line 1: a noun.

Line 2: 2 adjectives

Line 3: 3 participles I.

Line 4: 4 nouns.

     Line 5: 3 participles I.

     Line 6: 2 adjectives.

Line 7: a noun.

2. Colour Poem.

e. g. White is the colour of the snow

White is the colour of your hair

White is the colour of your wedding-dress.
