British Meals

Traditionally English people have three meals a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Breakfast is served in the morning. It used to be a large meal with cereal, eggs and bacon, sausages, tomatoes. But such a large breakfast takes a long time to prepare is not very healthy. Nowadays, Britain’s most popular breakfast consists of cereal, toast with marmalade, juice and yogurt with a cup of tea or coffee.

Lunch is a light meal. Most people have no time to go back home for lunch so they eat at school, cafes, pubs or restaurants.

The main meal is dinner, which is usually between 6 and 7 p.m. A typical evening meal is a meat dish with vegetables and dessert.

The most important meal of the week is the Sunday dinner, which is usually eaten at 1 p.m. The traditional Sunday dish used to be roast beef, but nowadays pork, chicken or lamb are more common.

On Sunday evenings people have supper or high tea. The famous British afternoon tea is becoming rare, except at weekends.

T: If you invite your new friends from England or from any other country, you will treat them to our traditional meals. Do you know how they are called in English? Let's read about Ukrainian traditional dishes.

Ukrainian Dishes

The most popular Ukrainian dish is borsch. This thick and delicious soup is prepared with a variety of ingredients, including meat, mushrooms, beans. Mushroom soups, bean and pea soups, soups with dumplings are also popular.

"Holubtsi", or staffed cabbage, is another favourite dish, as are "varenyky" filled with potatoes, meat, curds, sauerkraut, or berries such as strawberries or cherries. Ukrainians like dairy products. Some samples: curds pancakes and "riazhanka" (fermented baked milk). There are no holidays without pies, "pampushky" (type of fritters) and honey cakes. Of course, every region of Ukraine has its own recipes and traditions.

Check-on Hometask.

PAST TENSE в conditional clause, would + infinitive ( без частки to ) в main clause.

If I had a million pounds, I’d buy a yacht. -

If I were you, I’d pay for parking. -

If I had money enough, I would buy a car. -

If the weather were fine, I would go for a walk. -

(Present Non-fact).

"Якщо б та якби ...", але ні б, ні якби не виконані, тому головне речення виражає благий намір або побажання.

to be - для всіх осіб вживається форма were.

1. I (keep) a horse if I could afford it.

2. I should come and see you off if I (not live) so far away.

3. I should be disappointed if they (not come)

4. If you (paint) the walls white, the room would be much brighter.

5. If he (be) here, he would answer you.

6. If we had no luggage, we (walk) home.

7. I would drive to the country if the weather (be) fine.

8. It would be cheaper if you (go) by train.

9. I should be delighted if she (teach) me English.

10. If he were in, he (answer) the phone.

11. If you (not belong) to a union, you couldn’t get a job.

12. If I hadn’t a typewriter, I (type) it myself.
