Theme: Sport in My Life

Objectives:

Educational:to boots vocabulary on the topic “Sport in My Life”; to improve pupils’ grammar skills in usage of the Present Simple Tense.

Practical: to motivate learners to speak in typical situations and exchanging opinions.

Developing:to developpupils’ listening, reading and speaking skills; to develop speech abilities.

Educational: to encourage pupils to learn English language; to get involved pupils in doing sports.

Expectations for the end of the lesson:

Pupils should be able to:

 - understand, read and use the lexical units on the topic “Sport in My Life”;

 - use the Present Simple Tense in oral speech;

- talk about sports activities and give advice;

-  listen and understand unknown text.

 

Type of the lesson: Lesson of evaluation knowledge and developing skills.

Equipment: the board, flash cards, laptop, TV set, cards with the tasks.

Lesson:

  1. Organization moment (the beginning of the lesson).
  1. Greeting.

T: Good morning, everyone! I’d like you to greet our guests!

Take your seats.I’m glad to see you! How are you today?

  1. Announcement of the topic and aims. Pupils’ motivation.

T: Look at the board, please, and tell the topic of our lesson.

You are right. The topic of our lesson is “Sport in My Life”. We are going to talk about sport, your favourite kinds of sort, how sport helps us in our everyday life. We’ll read, write, act out the dialogues, listen to the text and do some training tasks.

  1. Phonetic drills.

T: For our work at the lesson we have to practise reading sounds [æ], [k]and [θ] using tongue-twisters. Look at the screen and repeat after me:

  1. If  you,  Sandy,  have  two  candies,
    Give  one  candy  to  Andy,  Sandy.
    If  you,  Andy,  have  two  candies,
    Give  one  candy  to  Sandy, Andy
  2. The fat black cat ran after the black rat,

But the fat black rat ran away from the fat black cat.

  1. Dick’s stick is thick

Nick’s stick is not so thick

Pick’s stick is not so thick

As Nick’s stick and Dick’s stick.

 

  1. Warming-up.

 

T: These days people are fond doing sports. They go to the swimming pools, playing fields and work out in gyms.

  • Do you like sport?
  • Do you go in for sport?
  • Do you go to the swimming pool or to the gym?
  • Do you like doing gymnastics? Why?
  •  Do you like hang-gliding? Why?
  • Do you like martial arts? Why?
  • Do you prefer playing football or basketball?
  • What days do you practise sport?
  • What kinds of sport do you prefer?
  1. Brainstorming

T: (There is an English proverb on the board: Health is better than wealth)

Everybody knows this English proverb: Make up the proverb with these words

Sports activities make us healthy. We do sports to feel good.

Look at the screen and tell us how sport helps us in our life:

P1: Sport helps us to be healthy

P2: It helps us to keep fit.

P3: Sport helps to look wonderful.

P4: Sport helps to make new friends.

P5: It helps to be more organized.

P6: Sport helps to have a good time.

  1. The main part of the lesson.
  1. Reading comprehension.

6.1. Pre-reading tasks

T: Let’s revise some kinds of sport. You can see some pictures on the board. There are a lot of sheets of papers with the names of these activities and sports. Choose one of this stripe, read the word and stick it at the picture that means this word.

  1.        Reading

T: I see that you know sports. There are yellow sheets of papers on your desks. And now read the text about Eddy and his favourite sport.

  1.        Post-reading tasks

Read the sentences and put T if it’s true and F if the sentence is false.

  1. Eddy is 25 years old.
  2. He goes cycling in the morning.
  3. Eddy is a doctor.
  4. Eddy comes back home at 6 o’clock.
  5. In the afternoon he has dinner with his sister.
  6. Eddy and his son go to the swimming pool on Saturdays.
  7. They like soccer.
  8. On Sundays they go scuba diving.
  9.  They don’t like bowling.

T: Eddy and his son like sport. They play basketball and go bowling. So they keep fit. I know that your friend Liza wants to be healthy too. Let’s give her some pieces of advice.

P: Friends, I want to keep fit and look wonderful. What should I do?

P: - You should eat a lot of fruit and vegetables.

  • You should go to bed early.
  • You shouldn’t drink a lot of coffee.
  • You shouldn’t watch TV at night.
  • You shouldn’t play computer games at night.
  • You should do your morning exercises.
  • You shouldn’t go to bed late.

 

Relaxation

T: Now children, I see you are tired. Let’s relax, sing a song and do some actions.

 

  1. Speaking practice (dialogue speech).

 

T. Your home task was to learn the dialogues. Now we’ll act them out.

Imagine that you are at the ticket office and you want to buy tickets for the volleyball match.

(3-4 dialogues)

  1. Listening comprehension

 

T:  We can do sport at school, you can go to the gym and also we can do a lot of activities at summer camps. Listen to the text and answer the questions.

  1. Speaking practice (monologue speech).

 

T: Now it’s time to talk about your favourite sport. We discussed all your projects. Now we are going to listen to the best of them.

We can’t imagine our modern life without sport. We can do it at the gyms, we can watch it on TV, we can discuss different sports events. We get up and then we do our morning exercises, we do activities in the middle of the lessons; we go in for sport after classes.  We want to be healthy and beautiful.  

(2-3 monologues)

  1. Setting home assignment.

T: It’s time to write down your home task for the next lesson.

You’ve got yellow sheets of paper on your desk. Look at them. It’ an invitation to the soccer matches. Using the information write a letter to your friend. Don’t forget to write about the place, time of the match.

  1. Reflection.

T: Our lesson is going to the end. Let’s sum up the results of our lesson. We have spoken about sport in your life and sport activities. We read, listened to the text about sport activities at summer camp and acted out the dialogues.

  1. Evaluation.

T: My dear pupils, you have done a good job today. You have been active and clever today.

These are your medals. Take one medal and stick it on the poster. Choose one of these columns: now I know English – very well, good, not very good.
