A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

Objectives:

  • to enrich students’ vocabulary
  • to develop students’ speaking, reading, writing, listening skills and creative thinking
  • to extend students’ knowledge about healthy lifestyle

Equipment: cards, texts, audio, student’s projects.

The procedure of the lesson

  1. Introduction

1. Greeting

Teacher: Good morning, boys and girls! Nice to see you in good health today. How’s life today? What mood are you in?

Let’s say something good to each other. Take this orange and wish something good to your friend. I’ll start “Halia, I wish you to get a good mark today”. (P1 – P2 – P3…)

Now, open your exercise books and write down todays date.

Today we’ll go to the country of Health. Are you ready? Let’s go! And the topic of our lesson is «We want to be healthy».

2. Homework checking

Teacher: Now, let’s check your knowledge from our previous lessons. Take the papers and choose the correct variant for the puns and tests.

  1. MAIN PART

1. Matching

Teacher: You know there are many proverbs, sayings and poems about health and healthy lifestyle. Look at the blackboard and match the beginnings of the proverbs with their endings.

 

Early to bed, early to rise                                      Keep yourself both clean and neat

Exercise can make you strong.                                   Keeps the doctor away.

Wash your hands before you eat                                See your dentist every year.

An apple a day                                         makes a person healthy, wealthy and wise.

Brush your teeth and dо your hair                         It can be fun and won’t take long

 

2. Listening

Teacher: You know that people can fall ill and there are many health problems. Listen to the dialogue and match the people to their health problems.

 

3. Work in groups.

Teacher: Today you’ll work in groups. And the first task is “Associations”. Draw your associations with the words “Health” and “Illness”. You have 3 min. After this time you should describe your picture.

(After 3 minutes)

Now the time is over. Choose a speaker and explain your associations.

4. Speaking.

Teacher: You’ve got a task in groups to prepare a presentation.

So, group 1 – you are welcome!

First group’s presentation “Healthy food”

Ps: If you want to be healthy you must eat healthy food which contains minerals. They are in meat, fish, eggs, cheese, butter, oil, nuts, bread, sugar, cereals.

  • Don’t overeat – it’s very bad for your health.
  • Don’t eat hot meals, don’t eat very quickly and don’t speak while eating.
  • You must also eat a lot of vitamins A, B, C.
  • Black currants, apples, lemons, onions are full of me. When you are ill, drink tea with lemon and it’ll help you
  • Our motto: Live not to eat, but eat to live.

Second group’s presentation “Sport and exercises”

Teacher: And now group 2 you are welcome!

Ps:

  • We think to be healthy people should go in for sport and do exercises regularly.
  • There are a lot of sport you can go in for: swimming, running, skating, skiing.
  • Sport helps people to keep fit, healthy and strong.

Our motto: A healthy mind in a healthy body.

Third group’s presentation «Laugh and smile»

Teacher: Group 3 it’s your turn to present your project.

Ps: Do you know that 1 min of laughing is as useful as 45 min of physical training lesson? 5 min of laughing is the same as 200 grams of sour cream.

  • When you laugh, you breath better, your blood better circulates and your brains gets more oxygen.
  • 10 min of laughing helps to forget about all pains for 2 hours.
  • Look at each other and smile!

Our motto: Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.

5. Writing

Teacher: Well, I think that you have already understood that to be a healthy person you should live a healthy lifestyle and keep fit. What are the rules of a healthy lifestyle? Let’s make up the rules of a healthy lifestyle and write them down on the blackboard.

THE RULES OF HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

  1. Get up early and go to bed early.
  2. Take regular exercise to keep fit.
  3. Take a cool/cold shower.
  4. Eat healthy food.
  5. Never smoke.
  6. Clean teeth every morning and every evening.
  7. Wash your hands before you eat.
  8. Keep positive thinking

6. Reading

Teacher: Now let’s read more about this rules. The first group will read the text in handout 1 and the second group will read the text in handout 2. After reading the texts you should speak about the rules you have read about. The questions after the texts will help you.

 

HO1 Text 1

Everybody wants to live a long healthy life. Nowadays a healthy body becomes a fashion, an ideal of modern life. There are many ways to keep fit. For example, healthy food is a very important factor. Overeating causes many dangerous diseases. We shouldn’t snack and we should have breakfast. We should eat low-fat food, more fruit and vegetables, meat, milk products, which are rich in vitamins and proteins. We shouldn't eat at night. If you keep to a diet, you must do it carefully, because sometimes diets may be harmful.

To be healthy we should go to bed early and to get up early. The body must have enough sleep to be healthy. Children of your age should have a nine hours sleep.

To be healthy we should avoid different bad habits that can affect our health. In my opinion, smoking and drinking too much alcohol, are the worst ones. It's common knowledge that smoking and drinking can shorten our lives dramatically. Smoking, for example, causes a number of heart and lung diseases. Besides, it makes your teeth yellow and skin unhealthy.

  2. Why is it important never to smoke, to drink or to take drugs?
  3. Why should we get up early and go to bed early?

 

 

HO 2 Text 2

One cause of illness and disease is dirt. Dirt is full of germs. They are very, very small but they are alive. They can get inside of our bodies and make us ill. That’s why we must keep our bodies clean. We must wash our hands before meals. We must keep our fingernails clean.

We must also keep our teeth clean. Germs can make our teeth bad. Then they become bad and hurt. We must clean our teeth every morning and every evening.

The best way to be healthy is to go in for sports. Sport is very important in our life. It is popular among young and old people. Many people do morning exercises and train themselves in different

Sections and take part in sport competitions. Sport helps to make people strong, brave and cheerful.

We can go in for sports in winter and in summer, indoors and outdoors. To keep fit, it is very useful to walk a lot, to play active games, to spend a lot of time outdoors in the fresh air.

  3. Why should we clean our teeth?
