The subject of the lesson. Christmas in Great Britain.
The objectives: to enrich and practice pupils' vocabulary on topic;
to practice students' skills in reading, speaking and listening;
to develop the feeling of responsibility for the group;
to bring up the respect to folk traditions and customs.
Equipment: textbooks, pictures, handouts.
The Procedure of the lesson.
Pupils sing “Greeting song”. (the 1st -2nd slide)
Teacher: Good morning, I am glad to see you today. How are you today?
Pupils: Very well… ( the answers of pupils)
Teacher: The topic of our lesson is “Christmas in Great Britain”. (the 3d slide)
At our lesson we shall compare traditions and customs in different countries. By the end of the lesson you’ll be able to speak about holidays in our country and in Great Britain.
2. Pronunciation
Teacher: Look at the board and repeat the tongue – twisters. Pay attention to the pronunciation of sounds. ( the 4th – 9th slides)
3.Warming up.
a) Jump Game
Teacher: Stand at your desks, please. I hold up a flashcard from the vocabulary set and say a word. If the word is the same as the flashcard, you jump and repeat the word. If it isn’t you keep still.
Example: a cake, a stocking, a Christmas Tree, Father Frost, a postcard, a present…
b) Dialogical speech
Teacher: – Let’s start with asking and answering the questions according to the topic: “Winter holidays”, using such expressions as:
It’s interesting to know...
Can you tell me...
Do you know...
I want to know...
Tell me, please...

So, pupils, ask and answer the questions. Mind your intonation. Please, start.
P1 – It’s interesting to know when do Ukrainian people celebrate New Year and Christmas?
P2 – Ukrainian people celebrate New Year and Christmas in winter. Can you tell me how do they decorate their houses?
P3 – They decorate their houses with toys, flags and balls. Do you know who brings presents to little children?
P4 - Father Frost and Snow Maiden bring presents to little children. I want to know do the children make postcards?
P5- Yes, they do. Tell me, please, what do people wish their relatives and friends?
P6 – They wish them a Happy New Year and a Merry Christmas.
Teacher. So, you see. “So many countries so many customs”.

P4 - They dance, sing Christmas songs, play games and have fun.

9. Writing
Group work
Teacher. Let’s divide into four groups. Your task is to complete the sentences with the words from Ex.4 . Use each word once only . Do it orally at first.
Then, some pupils from different groups write the sentences on the board. Others write them down into their exercise-books.
