Enjoy your meal (Form 6)

Aims: learning lexical units, developing speaking opportunities, supporting their wishes to speak English.

Equipment: topical flashcards and posters, riddles, basket with plastic fruit and vegetables, CD-s, a laptop, a TV.

                                             Procedure

I. Introduction

T: Good morning, boys and girls! I am glad to see you. Today we are having an unusual lesson. I believe that you are ready to show your knowledge of English. Be more active and hardworking. The topic of our lesson is "Enjoy your meal".

II. The Main Part

* Warming-up (a poem)

Get up, little Freddie,

Breakfast is ready,

Carrot and beet,

All that you need.

Tomato and radish

Cucumber and cabbage,

Potato and onion

For your brother Tonio.

* Vocabulary Practice (using flashcards; a basket with plastic fruit and vegetables)

T: Name the pictures. What's this?

* Reading Practice

T: Look at the screen and read the text on it.

(Students read the text in a chain.)

                                  Text

What is your favourite food? Some people love pizza. Some people love ice - cream. Not many would say cabbage is their favourite food.

But you cannot eat only pizza and ice -cream all the time. You also need fruits, vegetables, and other kinds of food. Water is also very important for your body.

You need all kinds of food to keep your body strong and healthy. Nutritionists (scientists who study food and nutrition) say you should eat grains, such as bread, pasta, cereal. You should eat meat, fish and beans. You should eat eggs, milk, cheese, and other dairy products. They also say you need to eat plenty of fruits, vegetables every day. But you should not to eat too  much food with lots of fats or sugar.

You need to eat some of each of these different kinds of food to get chemicals called nutrients. Carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals, and water are nutrients.

1. I am tasty if you boil or fry me. Do not forget to peel me. I will be white when you clean me. You like me with meat, fish. You can eat me every day. What am I? (Potato)

2. We are very tasty when we are green. We grow in the kitchen garden. We are tasty when we are salty too. People like to eat us with tomatoes in salads. What am I? (Cucumber)

3. I can be red or green or yellow. I grow in the tree in the gar. I am tasty in autumn and in winter. What am I? (Apple)

4. I am small. I am red. I grow in the orchard. I am ripe in summer. My first letter is C. Children like jam with me. What am I? (Cherry)

III. Summing-up. Home Assignment

T: Our lesson is coming to its end. You were active, hardworking and smart. Well done! Have you got any questions? How are your mood now?

Your homework is to make up your own riddles about fruit and vegetables. It'll be the task in groups.

The 1-st group - vegetables; the 2-nd group - fruit.
