She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies; And all that’s best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express, How pure, how dear their dwelling- place.
And on that cheek, and o’er that brow, So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent, A mind at peace with all below, A heart whose love is innocent!

Though several thousand people chose to try “Twas surely no concern of theirs or mine;
I loathe that low vice - curiosity;
But if there’s anything in which I shine,
’Tis in arranging all my friends’ affairs, Not having, of my own, domestic cares.
Canto I, Stanza 207 If any person should presume to assert This story is not moral, first, I pray,
That they will not cry out before thew’s hurt, Then that they’ll read it o’er again, and say. (But doubtless, nobody will be so pert)
That this is not a moral tale, though gay,
Besides, in Canto Twelfth, I mean to show The very place where wicked people go.
There was an old writer called Dwight, Whose bark was worse than his bite.
His newspaper articles
Tore people to particles
But the damages soon put them right!
чим загрожує.
