10th form Extra curricular lesson

Aim: to consolidate knowledge about Halloween, to raise pupils’ awareness about Halloween’s traditions, history, enrich students’ vocabulary, practise listening,reading, writing and speaking skills, try out AI for creation of images, to boost students’ creativity, critical thinking , promote teamwork and groupwork.

Objectives:to encourage peer assessment ;to revise vocabulary ; to watch a video and check comprehension,to write a comment ; to make up a story ending, to get pupils’ feedback .

Resources: Padlet, GoogleClassroom, Canva, Wordwall, Multiboard.

Time: 45 min

Procedure

1.Warm-up. Students are asked to express their associations with the word”autumn”(1min)( Whole class interaction)

2.Hometask check. Students uploaded their AI designs of Halloween costumes.Now they have to highlight what inspired their choice, point out what resource they used, assess their peers’ works. They are asked to vote for the best costume according to success criteria offered beforehand.Plus , they have to write a compliment using descriptive words on the poster.The images are displayed on multiboard to see the winner( the person who gets most of the votes and writes the appropriate compliment).( 10 min) (Individual interaction)

3.Revision of vocabulary.Wordwall crossword (Whole class are doing crossword on Multiboard. (8 min.) ( Whole class interaction)

4.a Pre -listening . Students are asked to make up 3 questions about the history and traditions of Halloween.The point is to predict the content of the video. They work in two groups and stick up their questions on the board. The fastest group gets a point.(3 min) ( Group interaction)

4cPost -listening Students are encouraged to work out success criteria themselves( sad face for 2 answers, neutral face for 3-4 answers and a happy face for 5-6 answers.) to assess their peers’ listening skills.(Pair-work interaction)

Two groups take turns to ask their questions and say if they predicted correctly.(3 min)

5aPre-reading . Students are given flashcards(generated be AI) in order to arrange them in three groups ( objects of Halloween, creatures of Halloween, activities of Halloween)
