Конспект уроку для 10 класу на тему: "If a disaster occurs"

Цілі: формувати навички вживання нових  лексичних одиниць; вдосконалювати навички читання, аудіювання й усного монологічного мовлення; розвивати  пізнавальні інтереси учнів; виховувати готовність правильно поводити себе в екстремальних ситуаціях.

Завдання:

•         практикувати вживання вивчених лексичних одиниць в усному та писемному мовленні;
•         розвивати навички аудіювання, читання та говоріння;
•         сприяти розвитку умінь та навичок виокремлювати, аналізувати та презентувати отриману інформацію;
•         розвивати уміння працювати в групах з метою отримання необхідного єдиного результату;
•         виховувати толерантне ставлення до думки інших, творчо підходити до поставленого завдання.

Очікуванні уміння:

Наприкінці уроку учні зможуть:

•         чітко знати назви природних катастроф;
•         сприймати на слух інформацію щодо природних катастроф, їх причин та наслідків
•         виокремлювати загальну та певну інформацію із прослуханого тексту,
•         надавати поради щодо правил поведінки під час виникнення землетрусу.

Хід уроку

I. Організаційно-цільовий етап

- Good morning, students! How are you getting on? Today we will continue studying natural disasters. Our focus today is on … … Try and guess – reading, listening, writing or speaking? Yes, you are right. Listening. We are going to listen to three different natural disasters which happened in three different locations on our planet – in Europe (the Netherlands), in the USA (Florida) and in West Africa. Also about what caused them and what the results were. We will also learn how to behave during the earthquake.

II. Актуалізація опорних знань з метою введення в іншомовну атмосферу.

1. Повторення вивченої лексики. Робота в застосунку Learning Apps

2. Робота в групах. Brainstorming students’ ideas

After you refreshed in your minds the names of some disasters your task is to think of the worst disasters and make a top five list of them (number 1 will be the worst). (Учні діляться на 3 групи і складають свій список або на Jamboard, або у Google-документі Word або у Google-презентації, причому для кожної групи виділена окрема сторінка (окремий слайд).

3. Мовленнєва зарядка:

Кожна група дає означення 2-3- природних катаклізмів:

Flood – water everywhere, flowing roads, cars floating away, houses filled with water etc.

Earthquake – shaking, collapsed buildings, damaged roads/buildings, victims, debris, etc

Fire – flames, burns, fire brigade, smoke, heat, fire extinguisher, smoke damage, etс.

III. Основна частина уроку.

1.          Listening for the main ideas. Listen to the audio and name three natural disasters in the order the speaker mentions them. Учні слухають аудіо “Three natural disasters” і називають природні катастрофи (flood, hurricane, drought (famine).
2. Listening for specific information. Перевірка розуміння прослуханого.

Now listen again and complete the sentences.

1. The water in the rivers rose higher and higher and there was a danger of … (floods).
2. Hurricanes are very strong winds that come from … (the sea).
3. Hurricane Andrew killed 15 people in Florida and … (destroyed thousands of buildings).
4. It was in the west of Africa. The winds changed directions and the sea … (did not receive the rain for six years).
5. People and animals died because … (there wasn’t enough water).
6. People had to walk many kilometers to … (find water).

3. Speaking. Pair work. Now answer the questions in pairs. Учні діляться на пари, задають одне одному запитання і дають відповіді.

1. For how long did it rain in the Netherlands in January, 1995? (For more than two weeks).
2. What did thousands of people have to do because of the danger of floods? (They had to leave their homes).
3. What is the speed of the winds of a hurricane? (Over 160 kilometers per hour).
4. What was the problem of more than 15,000 people? (They had nowhere to live).
5. What is the characteristic of a desert climate? (It doesn’t rain for a very long time).

4. Pre-watching video activity. Read the following sentences and decide if they are true or false. Фронтальна робота.

1.     If an earthquake occurs when you are in school, you should leave the building. (True)
2.     If an earthquake occurs when you are at home, you should stand near a big table. (False)
3.     The best way to leave the building during an earthquake is to get into a lift. (False)
4.     A good thing to do if you are outdoors during an earthquake is to stand in an open area. (True)

5. Watching the video “When the Earth Shakes”.

Task: watch the video and listen to the instructions. Then give your classmates advice what to do before the earthquake, during the earthquake and after the earthquake. Do it in groups and make your instruction list.

Before the earthquake:

1.     remove objects from over the bed to avoid injury;
2.     hang your possessions securely to the wall;
3.     pack an emergency kit;
4.     practice what you know;
5.     talk to your family how to get in touch and where to meet.

During the earthquake:

1.     drop to hands and knees;
2.     cover your head and neck;
3.     seek protection under a table;
4.     if you are in a car, stop and stay in it.

After the earthquake:

1.     leave if a building is damaged and there is a safe path to an open space;
2.     stay away from damaged areas;
3.     turn on a radio;
4.     reach out for help;
5.     if you are trapped, don’t move about, stay calm.

Find some information about natural disasters that have happened in our Kharkiv region and tell about them shortly (10-12 sentences).
