2. Speaking

T.: You told me that you like to read books. Let's speak about it.

    1)  -   What are you fond of?

•          I am fond of literature.  I like to read novels by Mark Twain and Ernest Hemingway, short stories by О 'Henry and poems by Kipling and Burns.
•          I see you are fond of English and American literature. Do you read the works by these writers in English?
•          I am a member of the English club. There we read and discuss many works by English and American writers and poets. Some of them we read in English.

1) Pre-listening activity. Т: I'm going to tell you about a very famous writer.  Learn the new words:

Britain's most famous playwright was born in the town of Stratford -upon -Avon. At the age of eighteen he married a local girl called Anne Hathaway. Then, two years later, he went to London and began working in the theatre. His career as a dramatist continued for the next 30 years. In that time he wrote almost 40 plays in the three main groups - histories, comedies and tragedies.

Task 1. "A Word Box"

T: ‘Well, girls and boys, a word box. Here, we have the names of Shakespeare's characters. You have two minutes to find them out. They can go down, horizontally.

Task 2. Write the sentences using the words in brackets in the proper form.

T: Your task is to read the poems. What proverbs are they based on?

A. A penny saved is a penny gained - Збережи, що знайдеш.

B. The wish is father to the thought- Чого бажається, тому вирішиться.

C. What the age does not see the heart does not grieve over - Як з очей, так з думки.

7. Summary

At our lesson we spoke about William Shakespeare, about his life and work.

You have worked hard today and your marks are very good.

*make a presentation about William Shakespeare;

*learn one of the Shakespeare's poems (sonnets) by heart
