THE RIGHT FOOD (6 КЛАС, ЗА ПІДРУЧНИКОМ А.М НЕСВІТ)
Objectives: to practice vocabulary on the topic of the lesson, to develop pupils skills in reading, speaking and writing, to promote pair work and group work skills, to compare food traditions, to bring up the right food taste.
Materials: a Magic pot, coloured cards with questions, handouts (the English family’s menu, the shopping list, the dialogues).
PROCEDURE
I. INTRODUCTION
Greeting. Introducing the topic
T. Good morning, boys and girls. Nice to see you. I hope you are fine today.
Warming-up T. Look at the smiles on the board. Tell which food or drink you like.
P: I like hamburgers very much. They are super! Just the best for me.
P: Milk is OK, it’s useful, but nothing special.
P: Fish? Many bones. Me never!
I.THE MAIN PART
Vocabulary practice T. Now open your books on page 56. Look at the key words. These are different names of products . Do you know any words? Can you read them. Any new words? (Pupils translate some words). after me – altogether – CEREAL! Very good. Now only boys – CEREAL! And now only girls – CEREAL! Now only two/three of you (name the students). Writing T. Have a look at the box in Exercise 2. Which columns can you see? Let’s read them. (fruit, vegetables, meat/fish, dairy products, sweets/bakery products, others). Now work in pairs. Put the words from Ex.1 in the right column. Add as many words to the different columns as possible. Then compare your lists with another pair and add any new words. Speaking T. At the lesson we have a Magic pot. There are some cards with questions in it. The cards are red (3 cards), blue (3), green (3), yellow (3). Take one card, answer the question and explain the meaning of the words in bold print. 1. What do you usually have for breakfast? 2. What is your favourite Ukrainian dish? 3. What is your favourite dessert? 4. Do you like to eat cereal for breakfast? 5. Do you always have lunch at school canteen? 6. Do you prefer dairy products? 7. Is your daily diet healthy? 8. Are vitamins important? 9. Must you eat a lot of sweets? 10. What do you usually buy at the baker?s? 11. Do you have any hamburgers in your schoolbox? 12. Do you often eat fast food?
Group work T. Now you have different cards. Join four groups according to your colour. We have four groups: «Red», « Blue», « Green», «Yellow». Each group discuss and write down what you ate for breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper yesterday. Make a list on the board. You have two minutes.
Now look at the key words, listen and repeat T. Boys and girls, Here’s the menu of the English family. Let’s compare your own menu with English family’s one.

Mingle activity
Think about your favourite food or drink. Go round the classroom and ask your classmates if they like the same favourite one. Find your «food friends». Reading
T. Dear friends, we really like eating different food but we don’t think if it’s the right food or not. Pre-reading T. Look at the pictures Ex. 6 p. 57. Is it the right food or not? Now read the text very quickly. Answer the question: What products do you need to add to your daily diet? Why? You have 1 minute. (suggested answers: vegetables and fruit because they have got a lot of vitamins) Any new words? Let’s check what they mean. (suggested words: either, wealth, proverb) Post-reading T. Look at exercise 7. Read the statements. Now read the text again and agree or disagree. Correct the false statements.
Pair work
T. Now you work in pairs. But your partner is the student who is sitting in front of you, not next to you. You need to complete the dialogue between two classmates at the break with the words in the box.
