Nature and the environment

1. Introduction

Т: Hi! today we’ll be talking more about our planet and ecology. But is it just a joke, or a true fact? And is climate change the only ecological problem mankind is facing today?

1. Warming up

Let’s have a look at common environmental issues. Look at the copies. Read the phrases and sentences. Let’s go!

1. Global warming and the greenhouse effect. Global warming is caused mainly by industrial pollution and the greenhouse effect.
2. The ozone layer and climate change. Holes in the ozone layer can influence climate change.
3. Endangered species and habitat. Habitat loss poses the greatest threat to endangered species.
4. Rainforest and deforestation. Deforestation of tropical rainforests can have a huge impact on global climate and biodiversity.

2. Main part

1. Listening .

1. Climate change. Climate change, also called global warming, refers to the changes in the climate and a rise in the average temperatures on Earth. It is causing more and more extreme weather events, like floods, droughts, wildfires and heat waves. The main cause is the greenhouse effect - an increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere that trap the heat from the sun. It is mainly caused by human activities such as burning fossil fuels, deforestation and stock raising (тваринництво). Transport is another big issue. Did you know that travelling by plane is one of the biggest issues affecting global warming? As more and more people fly, greenhouse gases increase. There is also a popular opinion that the ozone hole is also causing global warming, but it is not completely true. The ozone layer is affecting atmospheric circulation and helps to protect life from harmful ultraviolet radiation.
   2. Pollution The main kinds of pollution include air, water and soil pollution, all of which are harming the environment. For example, air pollution leads to poor air quality in cities which can cause serious health problems. Water pollution happens when dangerous chemicals from factories, farming and other industries get into our water systems. This leads to poor water quality that is one of main threats to human health. Plastic waste and soil pollution is also a big problem. Without being recycled, plastic and other waste contaminate land and oceans, threatening food security and lives or all the living organisms on the Earth.
   3. Deforestation Rainforests help to control global warming because they absorb carbon dioxide. In recent years, large areas have been cut down for wood or burned to clear the land for farming. The burning of rainforests releases large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Moreover, rainforests are a habitat for many plant and animal species, so deforestation can make these species endangered or even extinct.

7) Rainforests are a habitat for many endangered species of plants and animals. Dоesnt say It’s mentioned that rainforests are a habitat for many plants and animal species, and deforestation can make these species endangered, but there is no information whether those species are already endangered or not.
