Theme: Clothes.

Aims: to review vocabulary related to fashion, to promote communication and collaborative skills, to develop listening and speaking skills.

Procedure:

I. Warming up.

Look at these pictures.

Can you guess what we are going to speak about?

(We are going to speak about clothes.)

Vocabulary Drills.

Reviewing the vocabulary.

Please write three words which you associate with the topic of our lesson, with clothes. 

Read the words.

Let’s review some other items of clothes. Match the pictures with the words.

Working in pairs.

Look at these adjectives. They are synonyms. Fill in the missing letters.

good-looking          -         at _ r _ _ t _ ve      (attractive)

horrible                   -         te _ r _ b _ e          (terrible)

stylish                     -         el _ g _ n _            (elegant)

trendy                     -         f _ sh _ _ n _ b _ e  ( fashionable)

Speaking.

Make up two or three sentences about what clothes you wear. Use the adjectives.

e.g. I usually wear stylish T-shirts.

       I think I look horrible in a baseball cap. I never wear it.

       I am sure I look attractive in a miniskirt.

Listening and doing the task.

You will listen to Tim speaking about fashion. (Ex.2 p.39) (The textbooks are closed.) But before listening, please, read the following sentences.

1) Tim likes wearing baggy sportswear. (+)

2) He’s wearing a baseball cap and a hooded top. (+)

3) Tim prefers fashion to sport. (-)

4) The most important thing for him is to feel comfortable in the clothes. (+)

5) He’s bought a leather jacket. (-)

While listening choose the true statements and correct the false ones.

Working in pairs.

Listen to Josh speaking about fashion and answer the questions.

1) Is Josh interested in fashion?

2) Does he like going shopping?

3) Does he like wearing expensive clothes?

4) What would he prefer to buy: a book or a T-shirt?

5) What is he wearing now?

(Pupils answer the questions in pairs, then the teacher asks them to answer these questions in class)

Working in groups.

Listen to Brenda talking about fashion and put the sentences in the right order.

I’m wearing a school uniform. (4)

Open your books at page 40, read the text and check your answers. Read the sentences in the right order.

Let’s talk about your attitude to fashion. Choose and read/say what is true about you.
