Safety First!
Safety rules
Aims/Objectives:
-to develop speaking skills;
-to help students to focus on fluency when speaking;
-to assist the development of imagination and creative skills.
Learning outcomes: by the end of the lesson Ss (students) will be able to name 10-12 safety rules.
Age Group: Grade 5
Level: A1
Timing: 45 minutes
Materials/Aids:
1) copies of handouts and pens/pencils;
2) pictures and flashcards of dangerous and other objects;
3) chalkboard or flipchart paper,
4) notebook, TV-set;
5) crayons, markers, colored pencils,
6)ropes.
Procedure:
Whenever you are, you can face dangerous things and phenomena. Give the examples, where can you meet them? So there are different kinds of safety to protect you. Can you name what types safety can be (safety in the kitchen, safety on the roads, safety in the internet, safety on the beach etc).
2.Pair-work.
Now you’ll work in pairs. Come here. Take a rope and find your partner.
Look at the handout and discuss in pairs which of the sentences are true for you. Then we’ll discuss it together.(4 min)
Look at the picture and say what’s wrong.
Listen to the text and say what you should and what you shouldn’t do in the kitchen.(p.85)
3.Group-work.
Come here. You’ll be split into groups. Meangle-meangle…..3
In groups you are, please, read the text and answer the questions about road signs.(9p.95).
4.Group-work.
Play snowballs. Then unroll the snowballs and find your group.
Listen to the text and discuss in groups how the objects on the picture can protect you on the beach.(p.101).
5.’Dash’ game.
Now I’m going to split you into 2 teams. Say Smart students 1, Smart students 2. I’ll give you numbers. When I read a statement, I’ll say a number. Those of you, who are these numbers, dash to the board and put “+” near the right picture. (4 ватмана с надписями Safety in the kitchen, Safety on the road,
Safety on the beach, Safety in the internet). The fastest will get a point for the right answer.
6. Group-work. Speaking.
Now come here. Take a picture and your group members.( pictures)
You are going to work out safety rules.
Group 1- safety in the kitchen.
Group 2 safety on the road.
Group 3 safety on the beach.
Group 4 safety in the internet.
7 minutes. You can use pictures, markers, stickers, whatever you like. Then present your project in groups.
