OBJECTIVES

Vocabulary: words related to towns/cities; transport; holidays

Reading: reading for detailed understanding of the text; reading for gist

Listening: listening for specific information

Speaking: describing a city; asking for information

Communication: making comments; making suggestions

Grammar: making comparisons; very/quite/much/too

Project: describing of your town

Writing: article describing a place

Watching: film about LA and Woodbridge

EQUIPMENT: posters; grammar tables; a computer; a tape recorder, Enterprise 1 SB, WB.

PROCEDURE

I. INTRODUCTION

1. GREETING

T.: Good morning students. I`m glad to see you. Today we are going to speak about big cities and small towns, their life, transport, places to visit, shopping and entertainment. We are going to watch the film, listen to the dialogues, make comments, describe cities and your native town, make comparisons.

2. WARM-UP

T.: Look at the table. We can see adjectives, comparative and superlative forms of adjectives. Read after me, please.

1. Check-up

T.: Let`s check your home task. Read the sentences with the correct form of the adjectives. WB ex. 9 p. 49

2. Writing. Work in groups.

T.: There are 4 groups in our class. Fill in the correct form of the adjectives.

3. Listening

T.: Listen to the tape recorder and put T(true) or F(false) next to each sentence. Finally, agree or disagree with the statements, as in the example.

4. Watching video.

T.: Let`s watch the video film about Los Angeles and Woodbridge. Students compare these two places.

5. Physical activity.

T.: Let`s have relax and sing a song «If you are tired»

6. Reading and listening.

T.: Read the sentences, fill in the superlative forms and choose the correct item. Then, listen and check your answers. SB ex. 12 p. 85

7. Speaking.

T.: Students where do you live? Do you like our town? Why? Let`s compare Manevychi and LA. Using the prompts below: large, clean, noisy, crowded, small, polluted, dirty, safe, expensive, old, cheap, modern, peaceful. SB ex.10 p.84

S1: LA is larger than my town.

S2: My town is cleaner than LA.

S3: LA is much noisier than Manevychi.

8. Dialogues

T.:  in pairs, talk about your native town using the prompts below: old building, busy road, popular café, expensive restaurant, large park, big shop, tall building. SB ex.14 p.85

S1: Which is the oldest building in Manevychi?

S2: I think the Railway station is the oldest building in Manevychi.

Which is the most expensive restaurant?

S3: I think The Romans is the most expensive restaurant in my native town

Which is the tallest building? …

 

III. Conclusion.

T.: At the lesson you have listened to the texts and dialogues, watched the film, described big cities and your native town. You have made comparisons too. You were very active and smart. Thank you.

IV. Home task.

T.: Write an article about your native town. Describe the oldest building, the largest park, the busiest road, the most popular café and square in Manevychi.
