Aims:

-to learn facts about healthy food;

-to develop and practice listening, reading and speaking skills;

-to practice the usage of the first conditional;

-to encourage students to eat healthy.

 

Learning Outcomes:

by the end of the lesson learners will be able to:  

-read the information poster "The healthy eating pyramid";

-to find out the first conditional in the text and make sentences with this structure using food vocabulary;

-ask and answer questions about diet.

 

Materials:

1. Family and Friends 2 2nd edition (Classbook/Workbook);

2.  CD  (72).

 

1. Greetings.

2. Warmer.

-What's the name of Unit 8? (Let's eat healthily!)

Today we're going to talk about healthy food. We have two groups of food: healthy food and junk food. Let's divide these products into two categories. Come to the board and make your choice.

It's junk

 

 

(milk(low-fat), cheese(low-fat), meat, fish, beans, eggs, nuts(walnut, hazel), dark bread, brown rice, fruit, vegetables, milk(high-fat), cheese(high-fat), white bread, sweets, chocolate, cake, salted nuts, sugary nuts, hamburger)

Let's check our answers.

3. Listening and Reading Practice.

Cb Ex.1,2, p.80

-Look at the poster. Which foods should you eat most of?

-Why shouldn't we eat mostly cake or chocolate? (They contain too much sugar)

-Listen to the text (without pausing)

-Compare the information from the text with our answers. Were we right?

-Listen to the text (with pausing)

-Give the examples of sweet food.

-How do you understand "salty foods"?

-Why are dairy products important?

-What products contain whole grains?

-Why are fruit and vegetables the most important part of a healthy diet?

-Read the text.

-What do dairy products contain?

-What should be occasional treats?

-What are the most important parts of a healthy diet?

4. Relaxation.

Let's sing a song! Cb Ex.2, p.83

-Look at the picture. What is this song about?

-Read the words in the box. Listen to the song and complete it with the words from the box.

-Sing the song. What's the main message of this song? (first group sings first verse, all students sing chorus, second group sings second verse).

5. Grammar Practice.

-Find the example of the first conditional in the first verse.

-Find the examples of the first conditional in the text "Healthy Eating Pyramid".

-Use information from the text and make up the sentences.

6. Speaking Practice.

Cb Ex.4, p.81 (Pair work)

7. Summarizing.

(Group work) Think of a healthy meal. It can be healthy breakfast, lunch or dinner. Draw the plate with healthy foods for your meal. What healthy foods have you chosen?
