A WONDERFUL TRIP TO LONDON
Suggested level –A2
Objectives:-to revise Past Simple ,irregular verbs;
-to broaden pupils’ knowledge about The UK, London, places of interest in London;
-to develop pupils’ skills in reading, listening and speaking;
-to bring up interest in learning English through songs.
Equipment: pictures of places of sightseeing, a tape recorder, cards with letters and sounds, textbook “Dive into English”, a map of London and the UK,a smart board.
PROCEDURE
I.INTRODUCTION
T: Good morning, pupils. Nice to meet you. Today we are going to learn many interesting facts about London. So the topic of our today’s lesson is “A wonderful trip to London”. Let’s revise the words to our topic and places of interest.
II.MAIN PART
1.Phonics
T:Repeat after me:
(Teacher shows the words on the board and reads them; pupils listen to and repeat. Then each pupil tries to read all the words. Then they match transcription with the words).

T: Work in pairs and practice asking and answering questions.
Examples of pupils’ dialogues
P1: What is the capital of the UK ?
P2:London.
P1: What river is London situated on?
P2: The Thames.
T: Look at the map of London on the board and make dialogues. Imagine you are a tourist and a guide .You are standing in Trafalgar Square, the tourist asks the way to one of places worth sightseeing.
P1: Excuse me, please. How can I get to Buckingham Palace?
P2: Go straight on then turn left at the café, you’ll see Buckingham Palace.
P1:Thank you.
4. RELAXATION

5. GRAMMAR
T:Let’s revise the rules of formation of Past Simple.
P1:When we speak about the past event we add –ed to the infinitive if the verb is regular. But if the verb is irregular we take the second column (past tense).
P2: We make negatives in the Past Simple with did not ( didn’t).
P3: We make questions in the Past Simple with did and the infinitive of the verbs.
List of the verbs: walk, laugh, smile, ride, play, draw, feel, know, bark, shoot, arrive, start, give, choose, try, sing, read, write, jump, climb, hear, fight, drink, eat.
Pupils write holiday postcards to their friends in Ukraine. They use the Past Simple and this information:
-where you went
-when you started the holiday
-who you were with
-how you travelled
-where you stayed
-some places you visited
-some things you saw
-when you returned home
