Aims of the lesson: to practice active vocabulary; to introduce new lexics; to develop listening skills on the basis of the video about sports in Britain; to revise Past Simple and Past Continuous; to develop English sounds pronunciation skills; to enlarge pupils’ knowledge about sports; to develop listening and speaking skills through monologues and dialogues; to develop sociocultural competence; to impart love to sports; to develop active way of life.

Course of the lesson.
1. Greeting and organization.
Teacher: Good morning, class!
Pupils: Good morning, teacher!
Teacher: Today we have an unusual lesson. The theme of our lesson is “Sports”. I know that you’ve already learnt some information about extreme kinds of sport. And what about sports that everyone of us can do? And sports that you like? And at the end of the lesson you:
- will be able to speak about sports in your life;
- will be able to speak about sports in Great Britain.
2. Warm up.
Teacher: All over the world people of different ages are very fond of sports and games. Sport helps people to become stronger and to develop themselves physically. It helps us to stay in good health. We can choose sports and games for any season and for any taste. Which description fits which game?
Teacher: The sport of fighting in gloves.
Pupil 1: Boxing
Teacher: The sport of sliding on a small board with wheels.
Pupil 2: Skateboarding
Teacher: A very popular outdoor game played on a court with rackets in which the ball must be passed back and forth over a net.
Pupil 3: Lawn tennis
Teacher: A sport in which 2 people fight, each one tries to throw the other on the ground.
Pupil 4: Wrestling
Teacher: A slow run for exercise.
Pupil 5: Jogging
3. Revision of the active vocabulary:
a) Teacher: You know, children, that every kind of sports requires some special equipment. Look at the slide and tell me which tool fits which game?
b) Teacher: Well done class! And now, open your student’s books to p.92 exercise 1! You are to name these kinds of sports and to make up sentences. Let’s start. Who has already made up the sentence with the first word?
Pupil 1: Every Monday I have traini8ng lessons on football.
Pupil 2: We often play hockey in winter.
Pupil 3: …….
Teacher: Good for you, class.
4. Relaxing time.
Teacher: Class, let’s have a little rest! Stand up please! Let’s play a mime game! You will see the games and you are to show me the main movements of the game!
Teacher: Football. Hockey. Swimming. Jogging. Volleyball. Tennis.
5. Grammar work: Past Simple vs Past Continuous.
Teacher: You know children, I also like sports and some days ago I was at the skating rink. I was learning to skate and fell down so badly! And I suggest you to open your workbooks to page 39, exercise 6 and read about other people’s accidents while doing sports.
Pupil 1: He was cycling down the mountain when he fell off his bike.
Pupil 2: They were driving through Germany when they had and accident.
Pupil 3: Mikel broke his leg when we were skiing in Austria.
Pupil 4: We were travelling on a train when he heard the news.
6. Listening activity.
a) Pre-listening activities:
Teacher: I see that you know a lot about sports and I would like to enlarge your knowledge about sports in Great Britain! About British people’s preferences in sports! We shall watch an interesting video, but before that look at the screen. There you can see some new words. Listen to me and then repeat these words after me:

7. Lesson summary and hometask.
Teacher: Class, today you’ve worked very hard! You’ve learnt some new words! Your hometask is exercise 8 at page 39 in your workbooks. You need, first of all, to match the beginning of the sentence with its ending and then to put them in the correct order.
8. Assessment. Teacher: What have we done today? We’ve talked about different kinds of sports, listened and watched video about sports in Britain, learnt new words, guessed some puzzles and revised some grammar material.
