  Mykola Vasyl’ovych Gogol-Ukrainian- born the Russian author and dramatist. He was born in Sorochentsi, Ukraine, on 31March, 1809. He was first son to Vasyl and Maria Gogol. His real surname was Iankovskyi. He had younger brother . His name was Ivan, but he died when Mykola was 10. The boy went to the boarding school, then went to the Nizhyn high school from 1821 to 1828. There he wrote for the literary journal. Later he went to St. Peterburg and taught history. Pushkin was a good friend of Gogol.  He wrote many compositions, novels, stories. The most famous and popular  are “Viy”, “The Evenings on a Farm near Dykan’ka”, “Nose”, “Dead souls”. He was died on March at the age of fourty-two.
