Брейн – ринг “English traditions”  для учнів 8-9 класів

Мета: виховувати та підтримувати у школярів мотивацію до оволодіння іноземною мовою; розширити знання учнів про культуру країни, мова якої вивчається; формувати лінгвокраїнознавчу компетенцію школярів, розвинути в учнів навички слухання та говоріння; розвинути в учнів логічне мислення та пам'ять.

Хід заходу

   Good morning, dear pupils, jury, our teams and guests! You are welcome to the intellectual English contest. The aim of our meeting is to show the pupils’ knowledge of English. Our topic is English Traditions. Now I’d like to introduce our jury to you...

    Today two teams take part in our competition: the first team is represented by pupils of the eighth form. Let’s greet them.

    The second team is the pupils of ninth form. Let’s greet them.

Round 1

   The first contest is “Let’s introduce”. Each team names itself and tells their slogan, show their emblem. You can have 5 point for this contest. The first team, please. The second team, please

Round 2

   The second contest is “How much do you know about the English language and traditions”. You have to answer the questions. For every right answer you will get 1 point to your score.

         Questions:

        1. What is the official name of Great Britain? (The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.)

2. What parts does Great Britain consist of? (England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales.)
3. What are the most popular holidays in Great Britain? Name them. (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Easter, Christmas, New year)
4. What is the symbol of England? (the red Rose)
5. What is the Union Jack? ( The national flag of the UK.)
6. Which street in London is called "newspaper street"? (Fleet Street.)
7. When did the Great Fire break out London? (1666)
8. What is the emblem of Easter? (the rabbit)
9. What is the British national drink? (tea)
10. What is the national dish of the Britain? (pudding)

Round 3

   The third contest is “Make up a puzzle”. Teams, your task is to circle the words on your papers. It is names of English-speaking countries. You can have 5 point for this contest. You have 3 minutes for it. Start your work.

Round 4

  Now, the fourth contest is “Captains’ contest”. Captain of each team must make a word from letters. It is English holiday. You can have 5 point for this contest. You have 1 minutes.

Round 5

   The fifth contest is “Guess the holiday”. You will be shown some photos and your task is to tell me what is the name of the holiday Every right answer will give you one point.

Answer:  St. Valentine Day, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Christmas, Tea Party, Easter

Round 6

   The next contest for you is “Hometask”. You had to prepare a topic or mini-play about English holiday. The team must tell or show about holiday but no name. Other team will name this holiday. You can have 5 point for this contest.

When jury counts the points, let’s speak about weather.

Pupil 1. The weather is favourite topic of speaking. Englishmen like discuss it.

Pupil 2. When the weather is bad

We must not be sad

When the weather is cold

We must be told.

Pupil 1. When the weather is warm

We must be in good form

And be thankful together

Whatever the weather.

Pupil 2. There are a fairytale about the sun and the wind. Who will be winner?

Fairytale «The sun and the wind»

The wind: Oh, how strong I am!(показує руками).

The sun: Oh, no, Mr. Wind. I am stronger than you.

The wind: Let’s see. Look at that man. He is in black coat. Who can take off his coat?

The sun: All right.

The wind: I’ll begin. Whoo! (кілька раз і ходить навколо хлопця і дує на нього).

A boy: Oh, what a strong wind! I am so cold. But I have a warm coat!

The wind: I can’t take off his coat.(відступає від хлопця і ображено каже).

The sun: Well, Mr. Wind, you are not so strong. I will try to take off his coat. (ходить навколо хлопця і променем торкається його плечей).

A boy: What a funny day! First it was cold. Now it is hot. I am too hot. I will take off my coat.(знімає пальто і кидає на руку).

The wind: Well, Miss Sun. Now I see that you are strong too.

The sun: Aha. (руки в боки).

Results:
