Task 3 – Fashion and Impression

It is popular with teenagers to wear fashionable clothes. But only few of young people understand that to be dressed fashionably doesn’t always mean to be dressed well.

Think about the following. Sometimes you can see a person who looks well and everybody looks at her or him. There can be nothing unusual in the clothes but the impression is great. Why?

Another example. You ask your parents to buy a very fashionable thing like the one your best friend has got. You are sure that everybody will look at you only. This cloth is expensive, your parents don’t like the idea, you cry and, at last, they agree.

What happens next? You put your new outfit but … nobody looks at you. You are disappointed. You can’t understand the reason: your new outfit is fashionable but there is no effect again! You ask for another new clothes…

Next day one of your classmates wears a cheap dress. “Nothing special,” you think, “A simple cut and so on”. But the girl is so pretty in this dress that everybody likes her. Why? She has her style, the stile of behavior.

The main secret is simple. People do not look at your dressing—they are looking at you!

If you are friendly looking, smiling and believe in yourself they will like you. If people don’t like the person, even the most fashionable clothes will not improve the situation. It shows how much money you have: mind that many people usually prefer to communicate with a good person but not with a good sack of money.

Answer the questions

1. Is a fashionably dressed person always dressed well?

2. Are there people who look well in usual clothes?

3. Does a fashionable thing always guarantee success in a company?

4. When and why can a simple outfit attract more attention to its master than a fashionable one?

5. What is more attractive in a person—fashionable outfit or general impression? Why?
