Make up a dialogue.

  1.   You have won a sport competition (choose any kind of sport you like). Tell your friend:
  • when you started doing this kind of sport;
  • how long you have been doing it;
  • how many competitions you have won/lost;
  • about your plans for future.

  1. You are interviewing the winner of the sport competition. Ask your friend about:
  • what kind of sport he/she does;
  • when he/she started doing this kind of sport;
  • how long he/she has been doing it;

about his/her plans for future.

— about his/her favourite sport;

— why he/she likes this kind of sport;

— how many times a week your friend does this kind of sport.

Round 2.  What kind of sport is it?

  1.      It is a game. Both men and women can play it. The players have a ball. They play the ball with their hands. There are 6 players in every team. (volley – ball)
  2.      It is the most popular game in England and in our country. Both men and women can play it now. The players have a ball. The game lasts for 90 minutes. It has 2 halves. The players kick the ball and run after it. There is a referee on the pitch. He blows a whistle from time to time. The players try to score a goal. (football)
  3.      It is one of the most popular games in the world. It was first played in Canada. It is a team game. It is a winter game. Only men and boys can play it. Many people like watching the game on TV. The players don’t run on the field. They skate. They have sticks in their hands. (ice – hockey)
  4.      It is a very beautiful kind of sports. It gives the sportsmen strength, rhythm and grace. The sportsmen do some exercises or dance to the music. The sportsmen have beautiful costumes on. (figure – skating)
  5.      This game is played everywhere in our country: at schools, universities and sports clubs. It was first played in the USA. The team has 5 players. They bounce the ball on the floor up and down with one hand. They try to throw the ball into the basketball. (basket - ball)
  6.      You play this game in the swimming – pool. You need a ball and two goals and you must be very good swimmers. (water polo)
  7.      You play this game outside. Using a club you have to hit a small ball into a hole in the ground which is usually about 100 metres away. There are 18 holes altogether. The player with the lowest number of hits (or “strokes”) is the winner. (golf)
  8.      There are 2 players. You play on the table which has 6 pockets around the side. There are 22 coloured balls on the table. You have to try and hit the balls into the pockets using a stick. (billiards)
  9.      There are 11 players in each team. You play on a grass pitch, with a net at each end. The aim is to score by putting, the ball into the net, using your head or your feet. You’re not allowed to touch the ball with you hands. (soccer) 
  10. A sport exercise when you are pushing yourself suddenly up into the air using your legs (jumping)
  11. A sport in which people race in a narrow light boat (canoeing)
  12. A sport or activity where a parachute is used (parachuting)
  13. The sport of jumping over a high bar using a long pole (pole vault)
