Meals in Great Britain

The English take four meals: breakfast, lunch, tea, dinner or supper. The meals depend on that which people can afford.

For breakfast English eat porridge, fish or bacon and eggs, some bread or toast with marmalade or jam. They drink tea or coffee. About four hours after breakfast they take lunch. For lunch have some hot or cold meat with potatoes and salad. In the afternoon the English like a cup of tea with sugar and milk. The evening meal can be dinner or supper. On the dinner table there are soup, fish or meat, vegetables, pudding and fruit.

T: How many meals do the English usually take?

S: The English usually take four meals.

T: What are they?

S: They are: breakfast, lunch, tea, dinner or supper.

T: What do they eat for breakfast?

S: For breakfast they eat porridge fish or bacon and eggs, some bread or toast with marmalade or jam. They drink tea or coffee.

4. Let’s speak about table manners:

Table Manners:

Don’t put your elbows on the table.
Never read while eating.
Don’t speak with your mouth full.
It’s not polite to leave the table during a meal.
Keep a knife in your right hand and a fork in the left one.
Cut your meal in small pieces.
Don’t eat from your knife.
Take a slice of bread from the bread plate with your hand. Don’t take your bread with a fork.
It’s not polite to leave a spoon in a tea cup. Put your spoon on your saucer.

5. Interview

We’ll divide our class into three groups. Each of you has cards on your desks. Make an interview among the members of your group and fill in the tables. So, we’ll check who will be the first!
