Theme «Free-time activities. Sport »

Level: pre-intermediate

Objectives:

• to present   and  practice  new vocabulary;
•  to develop students' listening and speaking skills;
• to practise the usage  of present simple form of  do, play or go.

Materials: Multimedia set, a ball, handout on the topic (cards, pictures), flashcards “Kinds of sport”.

                          PROCEDURE

INTRODUCTION

Greeting - Good morning, children!                                                        

- How are you?

- Nice to see you!

- Are you ready for the lesson?

- Let's start our English lesson now.

Warming up: I have something unusual for English lesson today. What is it?

                      Yes, it’s a ball! What games can we play with a ball?

2.Students have one minute to write down as many fee-time activities as they can. In a minute students divide into pairs and combine their lists to see which of the pairs have the most ideas.

MAIN PART OF THE LESSON

Presentation of the vocabulary “Free time activities”

Play the recording, pausing after each activity for students to repeat.

 Exercise 1 Label the pictures with the words below.

Grammar: Play, do or go?

Look at these examples, now make a conclusion when we use play, do and go. Then complete the rules.

1 Emilly: I’m really into sport. I love volleyball. I play at the sports centre every weekend. I go with my brother. He doesn’t play volleyball-he goes swimming. But I’m not very   keen on swimming, probably because I’m not very good at it.

2 Andy.  I’ve got an Xbox and a TV in my room. When I come home from school I play video games with my brother. He loves war games, but I prefer races games. I really like board games too. I play them with my family and also with my friends.

Clere. I haven’t got my hobbies, really. I read a lot of magazines. But I think books are boring. I don’t read many books. Um, I’ve got an MP3 player so   I   listen to songs on the bus every morning. I quite like hip hop. My   favourite   group is the Black  Eyed Peas.
