Name of the activity: “The person I don’t know”

Age group: 5-9

Aim: to or revise the parts of the body and grammatical construction have got\ has got

Materials: posters, pictures of the parts of the body

Preparation: The teacher prepares short texts describing people’s appearance, pictures of the parts of the body that could be sticked.

Procedure:

The class is asked to form the groups. Every group receives the text describing a person and a number of pictures with the parts of the body. They have to read it and discuss in the groups. The teacher asks to create this person using the pictures. They have to stick it to the poster and to present to the whole class. It can be like this: Mark is tall, he has got two arms, two legs. The boy has got big blue eyes, short black hair and a small nose. He has got a wide smile.

It will certainly help students if the flashcards (parts of the body, have hot\ has got, adjectives) are on the board.

What learning styles this activity addresses:

For visual learners: pictures of the parts of the body, people on the posters

For auditory learners: Teacher’s commands, learners’ presentations

For kinesthetic learners: touching the structure of the pictures, going to the board.

 Our comment:

This activity is great for all types of learners. As a variant the people in the texts can be the descriptions of real pupils and children would have to guess who they are. But there could be a problem as all the pupils want to be described. Also another good variant is to give the descriptions of a famous person.
