Warm – up.

In pairs answer the questions:

1. What’s your favorite food?
2. What fruit and vegetables do you eat?
3. What fast food do you like?
4. Who prepares the food in your family?
5. What did you eat this morning?
6. Do you cook for your family?

Pre - viewing.

There are lots of different apps on the Net and in our smartphones which we can use to do lots of things. Cooking is not the exception. Google Home now provides step - by – step recipe instructions to cook a great variety of dishes. So, today we are going to watch a video from You Tube about cooking.

“Guess what?” technique:

Show  students the first picture from the video and pause.

• What ingredients can you see?
• What dish the man is going to cook ?

Students continue to  watch the video “ Making Raspberry Cheesecake jars” and check their guesses.

“Pause and predict” technique

Pause again at 04 second and get the students to answer the questions:

• How is he going to cook?
• What ingredients does he need?

While – viewing.

1. Vocabulary work.

Before we go on watching the video let’s discuss some vocabulary. Match the words to the pictures:

Raspberry – малина

Lemon zest – цедра лимону

Cheesecake filling – наповнювач для чізкейку

                                                       Crushed graham crackers – панірувальні сухарі

 “ Categorization” technique:

Now while watching the video group the ingredients according to the categories

After watching the video for the first time check the students’ answers.

Grammar revision (countable and uncountable nouns, much/ many and Present Progressive)

While watching the video for the second time make notes and then answer the questions:

• How many tablespoons of honey do you need? (3)
• How much milk do you use?(1/4 cup)
• How many lemons do you take?(1)
• How much cheesecake filling do you put?(2 tablespoons)
• How many raspberries do you have to put in each jar?(6 – 7)
• How many jars have you got? (6)

Students watch the video and answer the questions.

“Sound off” technique.

Now we are going to watch the video one more time but with the sound off.  We will pause the video and you will have to describe  the actions using the example:

He is  + V ing

While watching the video, make pauses and ask students to describe the actions using Present Progressive and cooking verbs.

After – viewing

Group work. Each group of students receive the recipe instructions cut into separate pieces.

Now put the steps of cooking the Cheesecake according to the  Google Home instructions and circle the right word. Then read and check.

Step 1: Using an electric mixer/toaster, combine the cream, cheese, honey, milk/cream and lemon zest until smooth.

Step 2: Layer in each jar six to seven raspberries/blueberries,2 tablespoons of cheesecake filling/butter and 2 tablespoons of crushed/sliced graham crackers.

Step 3: Serve immediately or store in the fridge/ cupboard for up to 3 days.

Discussion:

• How can Google apps be useful in our household chores?
• Is it easy to follow the Google Home instructions to cook ?
• Would you like to try and cook something with the help of Google Home?

“Inspire Yourself” technique

So, we have watched the video“ Making Raspberry Cheesecake jars” Cooking with Google Home. For your home task  you will have to make your own video recipe with step- by- step instructions for cooking some simple dish like the one we have watched about.
