Hello, how are you? How do you feel today?

  • I’m fine (very well, Ok)

Warming up

I’m glad to hear it, but what will you say if you do not feel very well.

Work with your partner and put the following answers in appropriate columns(each student gets “how are you?”card.

Ok, Not too bright, Good, Awful, Not bad, As usual, Terrible, Fine, Well (pretty well), So- so, All right, Very much the same, Bad, Great, Wonderful, Not too well, No complaints, Nothing to boast, Could be better

How are you?

 

After working pupils produce sentences:

T: What do you answer when you are in a good mood (in a bad mood/ neither in a good mood nor in a bad one)?

P: When you are in a good mood you usually say I’m fine, wonderful/ everything is Ok ……

When you are in a bad mood you usually say I’m not good/ bad/ terrible/ it could be better………………

When you are neither in a good mood nor in a bad one you say I’m so-so/ no complaints/ very much the same………….

Now let’s think about the reasons and problems because of which we do not feel well or are in a bad mood

  • you can be ill (sick)
  • you can be tired
  • you can be disappointed
  • smb can hurt you
  • you can have a quarrel/ misunderstandings

 

Working with dictionary definitions (homework)

Actually all the problems that we mentioned affect our health

Let’s find out what health is, using English-English dictionary (read the definitions you have found at home and say which one you like most of all, define what is health)

  • the general condition [kən'dɪʃ(ə)n] стан of body and mind
  • a person's mental or physical condition
  • the state of being bodily and mentally vigorous ['vɪg(ə)rəs] сильний, енергійний and free from disease [dɪ'ziːz] хвороба, захворювання
  • a state in which a person is not suffering from any illness and is feeling well
  • the state of being free from illness or injury ['ɪnʤərɪ] 1) пошкодження 2) поранення

 

Reading activity/ Fill in the health triangle

So we know that health is more then only our physical condition and absence of illnesses. Now let’s find out what are the most characteristic features of our health

 For it read the text about health triangle, take notes and then be ready to report for the other pupils about the aspect of health you have read and what we should do to stay healthy(pupils read different parts of the text, each pupil gets a triangle to fill)

After reading.  So you see that we got used to speak about health only as physical condition of our body, but now we will see that is not all, while your classmates report about other aspects of health be ready to fill your triangle

 

(Pupils get different parts of the text, read them and then share the information, each student fills his health triangle, so that all the sides are filled)

 

Song / Brainstorming/ listening/ singing

Now you will listen to the song, here you will hear some advice how to stay healthy, let’s guess what the advices can be

Begin like this

It is important to sleep enough to stay healthy

People must help their friends to feel happy

The pieces of advice are written on the blackboard. Then pupils listen to the song, and list the pieces of advice they have heard, next they get the song sheets, see if they understand everything, compare the song with their predictions, sing the song.

If you want to be healthy and wise,

eat right, and sleep right, and exercise.

All your whole [həul]  весь life long,

you'll be healthy and strong.

 

Eat lots of grains [greɪn]  хлібні злаки and vegetables,

fruit, milk, and protein ['prəutiːn] білок.

Cut way back on all junk [ʤʌŋk] food =fast food,

sugar, salt, and oil's what we mean.

 

Brush your teeth and go to bed.

Sleep the whole night through.

In the morning, rise and shine.

Sleep can make your body feel like new.

 

Go outside and play each day.

Ride your bike or run.

Swim or skate or toss a ball.

Keeping healthy can be lots of fun.

Text

Samantha is 12, she studies at the 7th form. Every day she gets up at 7 o’clock because her school starts at 9. She helps her brother to get ready for school because she loves him, and Samantha usually takes him home after school. She doesn’t eat much for breakfast, only a cup of tea or coffee and some biscuits. That’s why she usually argues with her mother about it. At school she usually has  some meal at the canteen (she eats the main course (potato and fish) and drinks cola after it).Samantha also eats plenty of fruits and vegetables each day(she takes an apple or a banana to school, at home there are always plenty of fruit, and her mother usually makes different vegetable salads). Samantha is a careful girl, she crosser the street only at green light and never breaks discipline at school. Three days a week, she runs two miles after school. However, some mornings she has a hard time getting up because she stayed up too late the night before (after playing computer games or specking over the phone with her friends till midnight).  On those days, Samantha argues with her family and friends.  She   becomes very nervous and doesn’t want to do anything about the house and refuses to help teachers at school. She is also too tired to pay attention in class. Is Samantha as healthy as she could be?
