HOME SWEET HOME. GRAMMAR. PLURALS. THERE IS. THERE ARE

 

Learning outcomes: by the end of the lesson the students will be able:

  • To describe their rooms and houses or flats
  • To understand a specific information about rooms and houses
  • To use lexical and grammatical skills on the topic
  • To use there is, there are constructions
  • To use plurals with -s and -es
  • To use this is, that is, these are, those are

Equipment:  a computer, 2 presentations, a TV, a poster, a Course Book ENTERPRISE -1 (Express Publishing)

 

Procedure

  1. Warming - up (slide 1)

T. Where do you live? (In a house or in a flat?)

Is your flat/house big?

How many rooms are there?

T. What rooms are there in this house?

II) Vocabulary review.

1.“Guess the room”. (slide 2)

 

  1.         There is a big bath near the wall. The toilet is in the right corner. There is a mirror above the basin. I like to wash here and to take a bath.

2.   There is a big TV in the middle of the room. The sofa and armchairs are small and soft. There is a coffee table in the room. There is a big window and white curtains on it. I like to read and watch TV here.

  1.         There is a large bed in the middle of the room. There is a red carpet on the floor. The wardrobe is brown. There is a pillow on the bed. There are two lamps on the bedside tables. I can sleep here.
  2. There is a large table in the middle of the room. There is a fridge with different food here. There is a microwave and a cooker in the room. There are a lot of plates, cups, knives and forks on the shelf. I can eat and drink here.

T: show them in a poster.

2. Word dictation.

Кабінет, вітальня, дитяча спальня, кухня, ванна кімната, головна спальня, їдальня, гараж.

У цьоиу будинку є спальня, їдальня, кухня, ванна кімната та вітальня.

3) Translate the word combinations: чудовий будинок, приваблива квартира, простора вітальня, величезна кухня, великий гараж, тиха вулиця, чудовий вид, гарна територія. –

4) Name the synonyms – ex 6 p. 19 cb

III) 1. Grammar explanation (presentation # 2) (Slides 1, 2, 3)

T: Look at the picture (on TV) and describe it with the help of the phrases There is/There are…

  1. Plurals of the nouns – ex 7 p. 20 cb. Teacher’s explanation. Reading the phrases. Game: clap your hands if we have the ending -es:

Cars, benches, brushes, leaves, foxes, boxes, dogs, houses, flats.

  1. Teacher’s explanation about the phrases This is/that is/these are/those are. (slides 4, 5, 6)

ex 7 p. 20 cb. Read the examples. Do the exercises from the slides (slides 7, 8)

IV) Summing-up

1.Complete my phrase: at the lesson we’ve learnt to ……

2. Evaluating students’ progress at the lesson.

V) Homework

T. Open your diaries, please, and write down the home task: describe your favorite room in your house or flat. Do ex 8 p. 20 cb in the written form.
