I Read the article about Christmas and questions 1-4. Then choose the correct answer (A, B, C, D) for each question. There is one task for each paragraph in the text.

Merry Mad Christmas!

  1. Every country has its own way of celebrating Christmas. But one thing is important everywhere – presents. Santa Claus brings them to most of the world. In England and America, Santa Claus is pulled by hungry reindeers to all the houses, while in Australia he rides a very angry kangaroo. In Hawaii he visits people by boat. And in the Netherlands he goes by horse, which is faster than the donkey he uses in Switzerland.

In which place doesn`t Santa Claus travel using an animal?

  1. Australia
  2. The Netherlands
  3. Hawaii
  4. England

  1. Food is also an important part of Christmas. In Australia people have a barbecue steak grill on the beach, while in England families stay at home to eat turkey lunch on the 25th. But in Japan, Christians eat Kentucky Fried Chicken take-away, and in South Africa they eat caterpillars – insects – they find in the garden.

Which of these Christian meals do people get from a restaurant?

  1. Steak
  2. Chicken
  3. Insects
  4. Turkey

  1. People do strange things at Christmas. Ukrainians put a spider on the Christmas tree, while in Venezuela the roads are blocked to traffic so that people can roller-skate to church. In Switzerland, they have a Santa Claus championship, where people dressed as Santa have ski races, climb trees, and build snowmen.

What do people do at the Swiss Santa Championship?

  1. They climb trees.
  2. They dress as snowmen.
  3. They put spiders in churches.
  4. They have skating races.

  1. And if you don`t know what to buy people for Christmas, how about these gifts? You can buy them a ticket to the Moon for 100 million dollars, or fishing equipment with diamonds on it for 2 million dollars. Maybe your friend would prefer a table that lights up – no need for candles. And the perfect gift for people who need help – a toilet that talks!

Which present would help people to see?

  1. The table.
  2. The flight to the Moon.
  3. The fishing equipment.
  4. The toilet.
