Dear Ms Halliday,

I am writing to inform you about something that happened after school today. It was an accident and I feel really bad about it.

I was working on a project in the computer room. At some point, I got thirsty and took a bottle of water from my backpack to drink some. However, I spilt water on the keyboard by accident. I immediately turned off the computer and unplugged it, and got paper towels to wipe the keyboard. I hope there is nothing wrong with it and it still works. I did not manage to inform the secretary about this because she was busy.

I know students should not eat or drink anything in the computer room, and that it was wrong of me to do so. I apologise for what happened.

Yours sincerely,

Tina Winters

Keys to the test

Listening transcript I

Kirsten is my best friend. She's great to hang out with so we spend lots of time together.

Kirsten is a bit lazy sometimes, just like me. Sport isn't our idea of having fun. We prefer

staying at home, surfing the Net or chatting. She always listens to my problems and tries

to cheer me up. I don't think I'll ever have a better friend.

I first met Paula at football practice. We play in the same team. She's alright, but she can be

really annoying at times. She always thinks she's right about everything. She also

wants people to do whatever she says and never changes her mind. This can be really

difficult sometimes, especially in football, because it's a team sport and everyone must

work together.

I like Fiona a lot. She's not perfect, but we get along fine. I'm quite shy and I'm a bit lazy,

too, but Fiona is very energetic and makes me join her in all sorts of activities and sports.

I don't know where she finds all that energy to do stuff. She really believes in herself and

she always knows what she's doing. I like her for that - if it wasn't for her, I would just

stay at home by myself and do nothing. The only thing I can't stand is that she doesn't

keep any of my secrets. But I guess nobody's perfect.

Listening Transcript II

1.

Polly Lovely hair, Liz.

Liz Thanks, Polly. I've just come back from the hairdresser's. You know, the new one which just opened.

Polly Did you dye it as well?

Liz Why? Does it look like I've dyed it?

Polly Yes, it looks darker.

Liz Well, I didn't. It must be the light. What about your hair? You wanted to get some highlights last time you went to the hairdresser's.

Polly I know, but I changed my mind at the last minute.

Liz Maybe you should. I think it would look great.

Polly Maybe I will.

2.

Max Where are you going, Julie?

Julie Home. Why?

Max Don't forget to call Sally later about Saturday's trip, OK?

Julie Don't worry. I won't.

Max Are you sure? You're not going to sit in front of the TV all night and forget about it, are you?

Julie No, but you're right. The first thing I usually do when I get home is turn on the TV, but not today. I have to study. As soon as I finish, I'll give her a ring. Anyway, if I don't ring her, she'll ring me. We're the type of friends who have to talk every day.

Max Whatever you say.

3.

Man Where were you yesterday? You were supposed to come to the exhibition with us. Did you forget?

Woman Well, no. I just thought it would be dull.

Man You were wrong. It was definitely worth it. All the works of art were so fascinating!

Woman Really? I regret not coming now.

Listening Transcript III

Alice: Hey, Max! I know you love making things, so why don’t you join the new arts-and-crafts club with     me?

Max: There’s a new arts-and-crafts club?

Alice: Yeah! There is a poster for it on the school noticeboard.

Max: Really? Well, when is it and what kind of activities does it offer?

Alice: Erm, it’s twice a week. On Mondays, there is a class where they teach you how to make jewellery.

Max: Erm… That’s not really for me! I enjoy making collages! Do they do that?

Alice: No, they don’t. But Wednesdays sound like fun. That day, you get to build models, like cars and ships.

Max: You’re right, that does sound like fun.

Alice: There’s even a model-building competition – in October, I think. How about taking part?

Max: Good idea! I can build a model car!

Alice: Well, in this competition, you have to build a plane…What do you say?

Max: I can at least try.

Alice: Oh, and guess what! There’s even a trip to a kite museum at the end of the school year!

Max: Cool! So, what are we waiting for? Let’s go and sign up!

Alice: Great! School finishes at 3.45 and the club sign-up is at 4.45! So maybe we can go to the library to do our homework for an hour!

Max: Sounds great! Let’s do it!
