В процесі формування соціокультурної компетентності учнів на уроках англійської мови та у позаурочний час учителю приходиться підбирати відповідний соціокультурний матеріал та організовувати його опрацювання таким чином, щоб сформувати в учнів позитивне ставлення до іншомовної культури, історії, традицій та звичаїв, сприймати їх як рівноправно існуючі.
Однією з ефективних форм роботи з соціокультурним матеріалом є використання різноманітних вікторин країнознавчого характеру, під час проведення яких учні не тільки отримують нову інформацію, але й мають можливість порівняти різні аспекти країнознавства: географію, історію та тісно пов'язані з ними питання іншомовної культури, вивчити інші зразки соціальної поведінки, які можуть стати в пригоді безпосередньо у ситуаціях спілкування з представниками інших культур.
