Topic: Environment

Sub-topic: Our Changing Planet

Outcomes:  By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

  1. Understand the concept of climate change and its impact on the planet.
  2. Identify key factors contributing to climate change.
  3. Discuss potential solutions and actions to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Objectives:

1. develop listening and reading skills,

3. develop speaking skills, broaden the vocabulary

4. encourage participating the group-work

Materials Needed:

  1. Online resources/videos about climate change
  2. Pre-recorded video on climate change
  3. Handouts with discussion questions or worksheets
  4. Computers or tablets with internet access for each student
  5. Whiteboard and markers

Lesson Duration: 45 minutes

Pre-Class Assignment (Flipped Approach):

Listening

  1. Before the lesson, assign students to watch pre-recorded video on climate change and its impact on the planet.

Introduction (10 minutes):

  1. Welcome the students and briefly review the concept of climate change.
  2. Ask students what they already know about climate change and its potential impacts. (PPt): https://wepik.com/share/9b6df6fd-923d-4295-b2fe-ac056f93728f

 

Main Lesson (20 minutes):

  1. Facilitate a class discussion on the pre-assigned materials, allowing students to share their insights and questions.
  2. Use the whiteboard to highlight key points and concepts related to climate change, such as greenhouse gases, global warming, melting ice caps, and extreme weather events.
  3. Reading Deal with the text .

Activity (10 minutes):

Speaking

  1. Divide the class into small groups.
  2. Provide each group with discussion questions or a worksheet related to climate change.
  3. Ask students to collaborate and brainstorm potential solutions and actions to address climate change.
  4. Circulate around the classroom to facilitate discussions, provide guidance, and answer any questions.

Conclusion (5 minutes):

  1. Reconvene as a whole class and have each group share their ideas and give the feedback on the lesson
  2. Assessment for learning; you did a great job and you’ll get your marks.
