Sight Words, Vowel Teams, and Blends/Digraphs
Reading Board Games
Your students will enjoy practicing some literacy skills with these colorful, engaging games! The set includes 5 games: sight words (Fry’s first 200 words), vowel teams #1 (long a and long e words), blends, digraphs, and vowel teams #2. The game boards come in full color as well as an ink-saving option. I hope your students enjoy using them!
DIRECTIONS: The games were created to be laminated and used as simple, one- page practice games. Just add one die (to make play longer) and game pieces. Place the pieces on start and take turns rolling the die and moving around the board. There are directions on each page. Some games require students to read the words. Others ask students to say the sound and come up with a word that either starts or ends with that sound.
These games cover the following CCSS* for first and second grade language arts:
RF.1.2.B Orally produce single-syllable words by blending sounds (phonemes), including consonant blends.
RF.1.3.Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. Decode regularly spelled one-syllable words. Recognize and read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words.
RF.1.3.A Know the spelling-sound correspondences for common consonant digraphs.
RF.1.3.C Know final -e and common vowel team conventions for representing long vowel sounds.
RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
RF.2.3.B Know spelling-sound correspondences for additional common vowel teams.
