KHARKIV INDUSTRY

Kharkiv is one of the largest centres of Ukrainian industry. Among the cities of the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent Stater) it is only second to Moscow and St. Petersburg.

There are 400 big and medium and 13,5 thousand small industrial enterprises in the city. Thð leading role in the structure of its industrial potential belongs to mechanical engineering and metal-working, electrical power engineering and production of construction materials. Chemical, printing and woodworking industries are also well developed. The city has a high-capacity base for civil engineering.

The products of Kharkiv enterprises are well known in Ukraine and abroad and exported to 80 countries of the world. They are tractors and turbines, jet planes and automated machine tools, electrical motors and engines for agricultural machinery, TV-sets and electrical devices, medical equipment, medicines, etc.

Specialists from Kharkiv have greatly contributed to rocket engineering and exploration of space. The control systems for rocket carriers and space vehicles as well as several generations of rocket systems developed by researchers and engineering specialists from Kharkiv are well known in the world. The systems constitute the basis of the national space programme.

In the city there are a number of light industry enterprises: textile, knitted fabric, tailoring, fur, etc.

Промисловість

Харків — один із найбільших індустріальних центрів України. Серед міст СНД він поступається тільки Москві і Санкт-Петербургу.

У місті близько 400 великих та середніх і 13,5 тис. малих промислових підприємств. У галузевій структурі промислового комплексу провідну роль відіграють машинобудування і металообробка, електроенергетика, виробництво будматеріалів. Добре розвинені також хімічна, поліграфічна і деревообробна галузі. Існує ґрунтовна будівельна база.

Продукція харківських підприємств добре відома в Україні і за її межами, вона експортується до 80 країн світу. Це трактори і турбіни, реактивні літаки і верстати з автоматизованим управлінням, електромотори і двигуни для сільгосптехніки, телевізори, електроприлади, медичне обладнання, медикаменти і багато що інше.

Великий внесок зробили харків'яни в ракетобудування і дослідження космосу. Створені вченими міста системи управління ракетоносіями і космічними апаратами, так само, як і кілька поколінь ракетних комплексів, добре відомі у світі. Ці системи становлять основу національної космічної програми.

У місті зосереджена значна кількість підприємств легкої промисловості: текстильні, трикотажні, швейні, хутряні тощо.
