ПОЧАТОК УРОКУ

Дівчина (в українському костюмі з хлібом): You are welcome to our lesson! We are very glad to see you at our lesson. (Дівчина кланяється.) То welcome guests with bread and salt is the old Ukrainian tradition, to take a loaf of bread and salt to coming guests is a sign of great respect. Welcome! Welcome! Welcome! (Дівчина сідає.)

 ОСНОВНА ЧАСТИНА УРОКУ

T. Ukrainians are known for their hospitality. It is a traditional thing that the Ukrainians enjoy cooking. The nature of Ukraine is very rich in soil which gives a chance to grow good crops. The fields of our country are always busy with vegetables.

What vegetables do you know which grow in Ukraine? Cabbage, beets, carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, garlic, onions. That allows cook different dishes.

The gardens are full of fruit (apples, pears, plums and grapes). The desserts are delicious. The Ukrainian cuisine is very varied. The range of dishes impresses any tourist coming to any part of Ukraine.

If you were abroad at presentation of Ukrainian cuisine what dishes would you represent? (borshch, varenyky, mlyntsi(filled pancakes), holubtsi, сало(lard), pumpkin porridge, dyruny, pyrogy, kutia, Chicken Kyiv, uzvar). Those who tasted Ukrainian food try to get recipes of their favorite dishes. Ukrainians like to invite guests to their homes.

I propose to watch a film clip and then try to say:

  • What places can we have meals in? - In café, pizzeria, restaurant, bistro, snack bar.
  • Do you like the British restaurant you have seen in the film? Why? - We don't like the British restaurant.

So, let's design our Ukrainian restaurant. Imagine that you have a chance to open the Ukrainian restaurant and you are a future director of it. What does you restaurant look like? What attracts people to visit your restaurant? What makes your restaurant attractive? What is its name?

Possible answers:

  • It must be made in a Ukrainian style.
  • It must be decorated with artificial decorations of fruit and vegetables.
  • There can be old household wooden or clay utensils (items), artificial Ukrainian flowers (popру, lilies, cornflowers, daisies, marigold).
  • There can be wattle fencing around the restaurant.
  • Atmosphere is friendly and relaxing music.
  • Let's think over the staff of a restaurant;
  • the head of the restaurant- director
  • a person who serves customers at their tables- waiter/waitress
  • a person who is main among cooks- chef
  • a person who cooks food or whose job is cookіng - cook
  • a person who cleans restaurant cleaner
  • a woman who invites guests to a meal - hostess
  • a person who is in charge of running business -manager

Let's talk about uniform of waitress. What does it look like?

It must be like Ukrainian costume (an embroidered blouse, shoes, an apron, skirt belt, braid, beads. Usually they are red.).

We have talked about the name of the restaurant, design, staff, waitress uniform of our future restaurant. Let's think over our menu. What can it be? I will read the ingredients, try to guess what dish it is.

pastry + potatoes = varenyky

  • dried fruit + boiled water = uzvar
  • cabbage + beetroot + tomatoes + greens + potatoes + meat = borshch
  • potatoes + flour + eggs = dyruny
  • pancakes + curds = mlyntsi
  • pastry + garlic = pampushky with garlic
  • chicken breast + softened butter = Chicken Kyiv

pumpkin + rice + milk = pumpkin porridge

  • macaroni + milk = halushky

  • boiled wheat + raisins + seeds of poppy + honey = kutia

There is one problem. There is a newcomer waiter and he doesn't know how to serve the table. Let's teach him. There is a napkin, a salad plate, a bread plate, a dinner plate, a soup bowl, a cup, a saucer, a fork, a knife, a teaspoon, a tablespoon, a sugar basin, a salt cellar and a pepper-box.

Excuse me, Where does... go?

It goes to the right of the dinner plate.

It goes to the left / between / on...

Now we are in a restaurant. I'm going to give you a task.

Match the questions and responses and act out the dialogue in pairs.

Are you ready to order?

Yes, I think so. Holubtsy with sour cream, slice of bread

What can the Ukrainian breakfast consist of?

What can the Ukrainian dinner consist of?

What can the Ukrainian supper consist of?

One-minute Quiz time

I have put a slice of lemon in my tea. It's sour. You have put too much salt in it. It's salty.

I've added too much pepper in borshch and it taste bitter.

I have put some sugar in uzvar. It tastes sweet.

Holubtsi smell delicious.

There are many vegetables in borshch. It is full of vitamins.

Pampushky with garlic smell spicy.

Greens are green colour and fresh.

There is much fat in lard. It is fatty.

There is much juice in apples. They are juicy.

There is one more Ukrainian food which is too fat. But in ancient times it was served for our Ukrainian people. It is lard. During the Mongol-Tatar invasion the enemies took all domestic animals, but they didn't eat pork and lard. But our people did. So thankfully to lard Ukrainians survived in those times.

Now, the pupil will tell us how to prepare snack of lard.

  • We take bread.
  • Cut it into slices.
  • Take the lard.
  • Slice it.
  • Put the lard on the bread.
  • Stick them.
  • Enjoy our meal.

We consider lard the visit card of Ukraine. Let's finish our lesson with a song «Salo». (В цей час дівчина пригощає бутербродами з салом.)

Oh, oh, oh,

Let us praise our salo

Oh, Let us dance and sing aloud

Oh, Salo is the most delicious

Salo, salo, salo, salo

Oh, Bring some onion and some garlic.

Oh, So tasty, spicy, funny Oh I am full and I am sunny

Oh, enjoy salo!

We would like to praise our food

Which is so tasty, sounds good

Salo is Ukrainian national dish

Would you like to know our wish?

Eating salo helps us to survive

In stressful situations in our life

Thanks to salo we are very strong

Full of energy and in good form.
