Mostly As
Congratulations! You are a very healthy eater. Don’t become obsessed with healthy eating, though. You can have a treat from time to time.
Mostly Bs
Good job. You know a lot about healthy eating, but sometimes you forget what is good or bad for you. The majority of people are like you.
Mostly Cs
You are not thinking about your health when you eat. Too much junk food and fast food can be bad for you. Try to eat
more fresh fruit and vegetables and eat a balance of different foods every day. If you do this, you will feel much better.
4. Revising grammar.
a) revising countable and uncountable nouns:
T: Which nouns do we call countable?
Ss: The nouns that we can count are called countable: apples, bananas, eggs.
T: Which nouns do we call uncountable?
Ss: The nouns that we cannot count are called uncountable: milk, bread, cheese.
b) revising some, any, a/an:
T: Where do we use some?
Ss: We use some with uncountable nouns and with plural countable nouns, in affirmative sentences: I’ve got some apples.
T: Where do we use any?
Ss: We use any with uncountable nouns and with plural countable nouns, in negative sentences and questions: I haven’t got any milk. Have you got any juice?
T: Where do we use a/an?
Ss: We use a/an with singular countable nouns in affirmative and negative sentences and in questions: I haven’t got a burger.
c) revising a lot of, much, many:
T: Where do we use much?
Ss: We use much in negative sentences and questions, with uncountable nouns: Have you got much water?
T: Where do we use many?
Ss: We use many in negative sentences and questions, with plural countable nouns: I haven’t got many oranges.
T: Where do we use a lot of?
Ss: We use a lot of in affirmative and negative sentences and in questions, with countable and uncountable nouns: Have you got a lot of water?
d) revising should/shouldn’t:
T: When do we use should/shouldn’t?
Ss: We use should to talk about things that it is a good idea to do: You should drink milk because it’s good for you.
Ss: We use shouldn’t to talk about things that it is not a good idea to do: You shouldn’t eat a lot of sugar because it’s bad for you.

6. Pair work. Writing
Containers
T: Work with a partner. Look at the photos and complete the phrases using the words in the box.
7. Matching
T: As teenagers, you go through many physical, mental, emotional and social changes. Your body is on its way to becoming its adult size. So, your healthy habits, including eating a healthy diet and being physically active, can influence your future. Use the eatwell plate to get the balance of your diet right. Look at the plate. Match the food groups to the different coloured sections of the plate.
1. bread, rice, potatoes, pasta
2. fruit and vegetables
3. food and drinks high in fat and/or sugar
4. meat, fish, eggs, beans
5. milk and dairy foods
8. Speaking
T: The eatwell plate makes healthy eating easy to understand by showing the types and quantities of foods we need to have a healthy and well-balanced diet. Can you explain why we should eat plenty of fruit and vegetables?
S1: Fruit and vegetables give us vitamins, fibre and energy. Most people know that they need to eat five portions of fruit and veg every day, but they don’t usually do it. Fruit and veg should be about 33% of what we eat in a day.
T: Why should we eat plenty of bread, rice, potatoes and pasta?
S2: These foods give us fibre and energy. Like fruit and vegetables, they should be about a third of what we eat in a day. Some people worry about eating carbohydrates because they think they make you fat. But these foods give us important nutrients, and low carbohydrate dishes often have a lot of fat.
T: Why should we drink some milk and eat some dairy products?
S3: Milk, cheese and yoghurt are very important because they give us protein, vitamins and calcium. The only problem is that they can contain a lot of fat and this can be bad for our hearts. So, either control how much you eat or choose products with low fat, like skimmed or semi-skimmed milk.
T: Why should we eat some meat, fish, eggs and beans?
S4: These are a good source of proteins, vitamins and minerals. Meat also contains fat, so try to eat meat with only very little fat and prepare it without much oil. Fish contains very important proteins, and oily fish contains omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 3 is good for your heart.
T: Why should we eat just a small amount of food and drinks high in fat and/or sugar?
S5: Fat and sugar give us energy. But eating a lot of fat and sugar makes us have more energy than we need or can use. Look for low fat alternatives instead and try to eat fatty foods only occasionally. Limit cakes, sweets, biscuits and fizzy drinks that contain a lot of sugar.
9. Watching the video
Pre-watching task
T: Do you snack during the day?
Ss: Yes, we do.
T: Can you give me five words for snacks?
Ss: a sandwich, biscuits, an apple, a bar of chocolate, nuts.
Watching the video
1. Amelia a) yoghurt
2. Kieran b) fruit or a milkshake
3. Molly c) a cheese sandwich, yoghurt and milk
4. George d) cereal or a cereal bar
Video script Presenter/Question on screen: What’s your favourite snack?
Amelia: When I’m hungry I got to the fridge to see what fruit we have. I
love apples, oranges, kiwis… any fruit, really. I sometimes make my own milk shakes. I take some bananas, some strawberries add some milk and I make it in two
seconds.
Kieran: When I’m hungry in between meals I always make myself a big cheese sandwich. I love butter so I always put butter on my bread. And after that I have a yoghurt. And, of course, I have one or two glasses of milk to go with it.
Molly: When I come back from school and I’m hungry I usually eat a bowl of cereal, with milk. If we don’t have any milk at home, I eat a cereal bar.
George: Yoghurt. I love Greek yoghurt. I do a lot of exercise and a lot of sport, and yoghurt is great because it has a lot of protein, which helps me build muscles
and stuff.
Presenter/Question on screen: Is it healthy?
Amelia: Yes, it is. Fruit has lots of vitamins and milk has calcium.
Kieran: It’s OK … Milk and cheese are good for you, but they also have a lot of fat.
Molly: I try to choose a cereal which is low in sugar and salt. I don’t know if you know, but people often say that cereal’s good for you (but) some cereals can be
very high in sugar and salt. So, I always check the ingredients first and only choose healthy cereal. Cereal bars usually have added sugar, so I try not to eat them very often.
George: I think some yoghurt has extra sugar in it. But sometimes I add fruit, like real strawberries to the normal, plain yoghurt. It tastes great, and I think it’s good for me.
Post-watching task. Pair work
T: Now work in pairs. Talk about your favourite snacks. How healthy do you think they are?
S1: What’s your favourite snack?
S2: My favourite snack is......
S1: Is it healthy?
S2: Yes, it is very healthy/quite healthy.
10. Group work. Jigsaw reading.
T: Now you’ll work in groups. Please, split in two groups. Each group will get six parts of its recipe. One group will have to rearrange these parts to make the recipe of Breakfast Muffins and another group will make the recipe for Chocolate Brownies. Then you’ll read your recipe and we’ll check the task.
