Teaching Objectives:

Практична: удосконалювати навички слухання, удосконалювати навички усного мовлення, удосконалювати навички праці в команді;

Розвиваюча: розвивати слух, увагу, пам’ять, мовну здогадку, культуру спілкування;

Освітня: познайомитися ширше з описами сезонних явищ;

Виховна: виховувати ціннісне ставлення до себе, оточуючих та природи; продовжити виховання інтересу школярів до іноземної мови та культури.

Expected results: учні знають нові ЛО з теми `weather` та вміють оперувати ними.

Teaching Aids and Materials: pictures with different weather, computer, audio, book by Oksana Karpyuk `English. Year 5`, cards.

Procedure of the lesson

І. ORGANIZATION PHASE

Congratulation to the pupils.

Report of the class monitor pupil.

Wellness survey.

 

ІІ. PREPARATION PHASE

T: I think, you have noticed pictures on the board. (pics of different weather with describing words)

(warm-up)

T: Can you describe a picture? How do you think, which word is hidden in these pictures? / which the theme of these pictures?

(guessing)

S: Weather.

T: Yes, it’s true. We will talk about the weather next several lessons.

(small talk)

T: Which weather do you like the most? Why?

S: I like when it is sunny / rainy / foggy / stormy / windy.

T: Write down on the board your favorite weather.

 

ІІІ. THE MAIN PART OF THE LESSON

T: Can you say to me from which word came the word `sunny`?

S: Sun.

T: Yes. This word came from a noun `sun`. Can you create other adjectives from these words I showing to you?

  1.     Chill – chilly
  2.     Snow – snowy
  3.     Cloud – cloudy
  4.     Wind – windy
  5.     Rain – rainy
  6.     Fog – foggy
  7.     Storm – stormy

T: Now turn on page 141 exercise 3 and make up true sentences.

Answers:

When the weather is:

  1.     Sunny the sky is blue, the sun is yellow, the clouds are white.
  2.     Rainy the clouds are gray, the clouds are purple.
  3.     Foggy the sky is white or gray.
  4.     Stormy the sky is gray, the clouds are gray/
  5.     Windy the sun is red.

(frontal conversation)

T: when we are talking about the weather, we also describing a temperature mostly. Do you know the sign of the temperature? Paint it in the board.

T: The whole pronunciation is `degree centigrade`.

T: Look at the pictures at page 141 exercise 4 and fill in the first gaps about the weather.

T: Now we will listen to the weather report. You have the text of on page 142.

T: In this text were new words we should remember (the teacher is writing on the board or giving word-cards to pupils, then they are repeating words together):

  1.     The North - |nɔːθ| - Північ
  2.     The West - |west| - Захід
  3.     The East - |iːst| - Схід
  4.     The South - |saʊθ| - Південь
  5.     Centigrade - |ˈsentɪɡreɪd| – за Цельсієм
  6.     Forecast - |ˈfɔːkɑːst| – прогноз погоди
  7.     Degree - |dɪˈɡriː| - градус
  8.     To expect - |ɪkˈspekt| - очікувати
  9.     To report - |rɪˈpɔːt| - повідомлювати

T: Did you ever watch the weather report? Do you like it? Why (not)? Do you know the difference between weather report and weather forecast?

Forecast is predicted weather. Weather report is what's happening now.

T: Now you should continue to fill in your cards from exercise 4.

Answers:

  1.     Weather: foggy; Temperature: 12°C; Town: London
  2.     Weather: rainy and wet; Temperature: 15°C; Town: Madrid
  3.     Weather: sunny and warm; Temperature: 22°C; Town: Rome
  4.     Weather: snow storm; Temperature: 0°C; Town: Oslo
  5.     Weather: cloudy and windy; Temperature: 9°C; Town: Berlin

T: Are you ready to check?

S: Yes, we are. The first card is…

T: Well done, pupils.

T: Do you remember we wrote on the board your favorite weather? It’s time to do a mind map with them!

(teacher writing in the middle of the board word `weather` and doing 4 lines for `spring`, `summer`, `autumn`, `winter` and the pupils writing connecting words to each season)

OR

(the class is dividing in 2-4 teams; the teacher gives cards to each team with empty mind map where in the middle word `weather` and also gives stickers to them. The pupils should manage the stickers correctly. Big stickers with words `spring`, ` summer`, `autumn`, `winter` and the small ones `chilly`, `snowy`, `cloudy`, `windy`, `rainy`, `foggy`, `stormy`, `warm`, `cold`, `frost`, `hot`)

 T: You did beautiful mind maps! We will pin them on our Padlet board.

IV. HOMEWORK

T: Your homework is to do exercise 3, page 143 and learn new words.
