Topic: Holidays

 Subtopic:  Birthday

Class Profile: 8 female, 7 male, 1-st form, 6-7 years old,   well motivated.

Aims: to introduce and enrich topical vocabulary, to develop listening skills.

Objectives: to practice vocabulary on topic “Birthday”, to learn new words, to learn greetings on different holidays and occasions.

Learning outcomes: by the end of the lesson pupils will be able to greet on Birthday and name Birthday presents.

Anticipated problems: technical issues- Teacher reads the text; smb is too shy to answer- Teacher involves the pupil into a group

Materials and Resources: handouts, flashcards, posters, video, pictures.

Procedure

Stage 1 Warming-up    ( 2min)

The children greet a teacher and before sitting down they have to name any English word they know (Password)

Stage 2  Brainstorming   (2min)

T-P questions

The children answer the teacher’s questions and point to the maps of Great Britain, Ukraine and the Queen.

Stage 3. Vocabulary Revision  (2min+2min)

1. The children name holidays which are celebrated in Great Britain and Ukraine (the pictures are on the board) .Then they are matching the holidays to their symbols. (The Birthday is the last)

2. Holiday + greeting. The teacher says how people greet on these holidays and remind that today is Teddy’s Birthday (the teacher is putting on hats on Teddy, on herself and on the children’s heads and they begin to greet Teddy.

Stage 4 (2min)

I have a surprise for Teddy too.

 Magic Box (the teacher takes out a present from the box for Teddy- singing card (Pupils sing the song “Happy Birthday”to Teddy)

       Stage 5   Pre-listening task (5 min.)

Topical vocabulary:

Our Teddy has got a lot of presets from his family. Let’s look what are there in this box?

a) realia (2 min)  ( the teacher presents to the pupils real toys)

b) Game”Guess the present”(3min) (Pupil hides a toy the others try to guess what it is,  the pupil who guesses- hides the other toy)

Example:   ” Is it a………”

                      Yes, it is.

                      No, it isn’t.

 Stage 6 While-listening task  (2min)

Multiple choices (after the first watching)

          Stage 7 Post-listening task(after the second watching)(15 min)

1.Yes /No sentences(4min.) ( if yes - raise your flyswatters
up , if no -with flyswatters clap your desk)

2. Group work (5min)  Make puzzles to make a dialogue according to the video.

3. Pair work (6min.) The children act.
