Конспект уроку для 10 класу на тему: "Natural disasters. How to survive"

Ціль: розвиток комунікативної компетенції учнів з теми «Природні катастрофи».

Завдання:

•             Практикувати вживання вивчених лексичних одиниць в усному та писемному мовленні;

•         Розвивати навички аудіювання, читання та говоріння;
•         Сприяти розвитку умінь та навичок виокремлювати, аналізувати та презентувати отриману інформацію;
•         Розвивати уміння працювати в групах з метою отримання необхідного єдиного результату;
•         Виховувати толерантне ставлення до думки інших, творчо підходити до поставленого завдання.

Очікуванні уміння:

Наприкінці уроку учні зможуть:

•         Надавати означення природних катастроф та обговорювати причини їх виникнення;
•         Висловлювати власну думку щодо зазначеної теми
•         Надавати поради щодо правил поведінки під час виникнення тієї чи іншої природної катастрофи.

Хід уроку

I. Організаційно-цільовий етап

- Good morning, students! Today we are going to speak about one of the most important topic of our dangerous life. I would like you to listen to the poem and say what is the topic of our today`s lesson?

STORM

Jagged light, blue and bright

Flashes in the air.

Rumble bumble, crash boom

What’s going there?

The Man in the Moon is having a party,

Fireworks burst and fly

As wild drums and dancing feet

• Yes, you are right. We are going to speak about natural disasters, about why they occur and how people can survive when they happen. Before we start our work, let`s divide into three groups according to three types of natural disaster: weather disaster, water or land movement disaster. (Вчитель пропонує учням взяти папірець синього, зеленого чи жовтого кольору. Таким чином формуються групи: синій – water disaster, зелений –land disaster , жовтий – weather disaster)

II.Актуалізація опорних знань з метою введення в іншомовну атмосферу.

1. Мозковий штурм. Brainstorming students’ ideas

•              Group up the next words according to the type of natural disaster: (each group writes down words belonging only to its name of the group): tornado, earthquake, tsunami, volcano eruption, flood, hurricane, drought, blizzard, avalanche, hailstorm, whirlpool, heat wave, landslide, forest fire, typhoon, whirlwind, thunderstorm.
• Now let`s control your choice: water disaster – tsunami, flood, whirlpool; land disaster –earthquake, volcano eruption, avalanche, landslide, forest fire; weather disaster - tornado, hurricane, drought, blizzard, hailstorm, heat wave, typhoon, whirlwind, thunderstorm.

2. Мовленнєва зарядка:

• Can you explain the meaning of some disasters?

Кожна група дає означення 2-3- природних катаклізмів:

Flood – water everywhere, flowing roads, cars floating away, houses filled with water etc.

Earthquake – shaking, collapsed buildings, damaged roads/buildings, victims, debris, etc

Fire – flames, burns, fire brigade, smoke, heat, fire extinguisher, smoke damage, etс.

III.Основна частина уроку.

1.          Listening. Video watching. Мозковий штурм. Brainstorming students’ ideas. - Watch the video and say which of them are natural and which are caused by human error.

Учні дивляться відеофільм “Are all these natural disaster normal?”, називають варіанти природних катастроф та тих, що спричинила людина або ж і природа, і людина: Flood, hurricane, tornado, tsunami, volcano, earthquake, fire – though fire as both a natural (when caused by a lightning) and manmade disaster.

2. Reading. Discussing. Робота з текстом. Перевірка розуміння тексту.

•              If a man or a nature is guilty in natural hazards, people suffers when they occur. So, students open your book on page 100, Ex.3.Your task is to read and understand the texts; guess what disasters the main characters of each story experienced and what feelings people often have in such situations. (Учні читають тексти про досвід двох людей, які були свідками виверження вулкану та землетрусу).
•              Now let`s control your understanding of the texts in the following way: there are some words belonging to the both texts. Choose 3 representatives of each of your group. They take the word, stick it under the name of the main character of the story, and explain his /her choice. Ready? Please, who is the first?

Words for controlling the text contest: Paradise club, volcano eruption, take a nap, a port, Santa Librada, have a lunch, the ceiling, survived, help arrived.

(Учні беруть по слову, прикріплюють під певним ім’ям, пояснюючи свій вибір) 

• What about feelings? - Учні називають почуття, які людина відчуває під час якогось природного катаклізму: fear, panic, terror, distress, trauma, horror, despair, helplessness, etc.

3. Listening. Video watching “Safe Steps: fire, flood, earthquake”.

Task: watch the next video and listen to the instructions. Then give your classmates advice what to do during the earthquake if you are in the street, in school or at home. Do it in groups and make your instruction list: group “water disaster – how to survive during flooding”, “weather disaster – how to survive during fire”, “land disaster” – how to survive during the earthquake.

Можливі відповіді учнів: SAFE STEPS:

EARTHQUAKE

•                                       if you hear the warning of a possible earthquake, take the necessary things, food, documents, and leave the house;
•                                       before leaving the flat or house, turn off electricity to prevent fire’
•                                       don’t panic; act quickly and quietly;
•                                       keep away from the buildings;
•                                       go to the parks or school playing fields, assemble in open spaces;
•                                       if it happens to suddenly and you have no time to go out, the best place to shelter is in a doorway or under a heavy table.

FIRE

•                                       wrap a wet blanket around yourself;
•                                       cover nose and mouth with damp cloth;
•                                       use the nearest emergency exit;
•                                       avoid using shifts;
•                                       don’t panic;
•                                       open the window of the room you are in;
•                                       raise the alarm and call the fire brigade (if possible)
•                                       yell “Fire” to alert others;
•                                       stay close to the floor;
•                                       if you see smoke, evacuate the building quickly and quietly.

FLOOD

•                                       turn off electricity to prevent fire and electrocution;
•                                       do not attempt to swim as you could be washed away or drown;
•                                       go to the highest level of the building and wait for rescue;
•                                       let off flares;
•                                       get rid of heavy clothes in case you fall into the water.

4. Презентація постеру-інструкції щодо правил виживання під час повені, пожежі та землетрусу. Presentation

Each group presents its poster and gives advice about what to do in case of a certain natural disaster. All of the other students make notes.

IV. Evaluation and assessment. Homework    Find some information about natural disasters that have happened in our Zaporizhzhya region and tell about them shortly (10-12 sentences).
