Тема:   Let’s celebrate!

Підтема:   Коли у тебе день народження?

Мета:   практична – презентувати новий лексичний матеріал за

підтемою «Календар», формувати навички вживання нових

лексичних одиниць, порядкових числівників, описувати та

запитувати про день народження, вдосконалення умінь

будувати своє мовне висловлювання, учитися працювати у

парі, вдосконалювати компетенції читання та аудіювання.

Обладнання:  Плакат «Порядкові числівники»,  «Calendar».

ХІД УРОКУ

WARM-UP

1. GAME “NUMBERS”

Write numbers on the board. Divide class into 3 teams and give a pupil from each team a piece of chalk. Say a number. The first pupil to run to the board and circle round the correct number wins a point for their team.

2. Listen and sing the song.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5 –                                                                                 

Say the numbers.       

You can try.    20, 30, 45 –

6, 7, 8, 9, 10 –    Say the numbers.

It’s so easy.    You can try.

Try again.     50, 60, 72 –

     I can do it.

     So can you.

PRESENTATION 3. Stick the calendar on the board. Revise days of

    the week, the months and the seasons using the

calendar.

PAIR WORK. Ask pupils to look at the book ex.1, p.82. Pupils make the questions using the table and answer them in pairs. Pupils in pairs take turns to ask and answer questions about the calendar. Pupils act out the dialogue in pairs. Monitor the activity and help where necessary.

PRACTICE  4. Look at the calendar, ask and answer. Revise the

numbers. Pay attention to the month which have got 30

and 31 days.

OPTIONAL  

ACTIVITY  5. GAME “BINGO”

Pupils make a grid of six squares. They write a month number in each square. Call out month numbers at random: if pupils have the number you call out on their grid, they tick it, or cross it of, or cover it with a small piece of paper. The first pupil to tick all six numbers on their cross cover grid calls out “Bingo” and is the winner.

READING   6. Read, then have to talk to your classmate.

AND   PAIR WORK. Ask pupils to read some information about

WRITING   people in the table according to their days of birth.

POST-READING a) Ask pupils to read speech bubbles and make dialogue

using the information from the table.

P1 – When is your birthday?

P2 – It is on _________. And your?

P1 – It is on _________.

b) Find and say. Read the statements about the characters.

(book: p.84, ex. 3b)

P1 – When is your birthday?

P2 – It is on the _______.

P1 – Look! Igor says you like animals. Is it right?

P2 – Yes, it is. (No, it is not)

P1 – And when is your birthday?

P2 – My birthday is on _____.

7. Ask and answer in pairs (p.94, ex.5). Stick the table “ordinal numbers”. Remind pupils how ordinal numbers after first, second and third are similar to cardinal numbers, except the spelling changes for five-fifth…..  . In these two –

twelve – twelfth.

cases there is a small pronunciation change also. All the other ordinal numbers simply add   –th to the end of the cardinal number: demonstrate this on the board.

ENDING THE LESSON

8. Draw a blank line on the board to represent each letter of a word (e.g. for the word “twenty” you write _ _ _ _ _ _). Pupils call out letters. If a letter is in the word, write the letter on the appropriate blank line. If the letter is not in the word, draw on line of the Hangman picture. Pupils must try and find all the letters in the word or guess the word before you have drawn the ten lines to complete the Hangman. Also let pupils choose a word (original number) and draw the blank lines on the board.

9. Complete the story with some of the words from the box. Put them into correct forms.

    Smile, glad, laugh, happy, present, jump, new pet,

    find something clap hands.

Peter is sad. It’s his birthday. His sister and his friends forgot about his birthday. Peter walks home. He opens the door. His friends and his sister shout: “__________ birthday!” They give Peter a _________. It’s a ___________. They ________. Peter is _________.  His friends and his sister are _____________.  “What a great birthday”, says Peter.

10. Listen and sing a song “Happy birthday to you”.

11. Complete this poem according your own feelings.

1) Birthday is like a ___________________.

2) It tastes like___________________.

3) It smells like _________________.

4) It sounds like ___________________.

5) It End if feels like __________________.

HOMEWORK   Read ex.5, p.84, workbook

SUMMURIZING  Today we’ve learned some new vocabulary on the topic

“Calendar”. You also had a good practice of a dialogue

on this topic. Now you are able to use ordinal numbers in

any situation.
