So, every country and nation has their own traditions and customs. It's very important to know traditions and customs of different people, especially if we want to know their language. We can't say, "We know English", if we do not know English traditions. Besides, they are very important in the life of English people. They are proud of their traditions and keep them up carefully. That's why we are going to know more about British holidays today. Reading	1113 min	Pupils take turns reading the text and the teacher explains the new words for them. The British celebrate this holiday on the 31st of October. It is a funny and interesting holiday. People wear funny costumes and masks. They make pumpkin lanterns and like telling strange and horrible stories. It’s Hallowe'en. For most British families this is the most important festival of the year. There are a lot of traditions connected with Xmas, but the most important one is giving presents. On X-mas Day the families cook a big turkey for dinner and have a traditional Christmas pudding. On the Sunday before Xmas many churches hold a service. Every family has its own X-mas fir-tree. The 26th of December is also a public holiday, called Boxing Day. People visit their friends and relatives, give presents to each other and have fun. In Britain the New Year is not as widely celebrated as X-mas. Some people ignore it completely and go to bed at usual time. Others, however, do celebrate it in one way or another.
