T: Hello, girls and boys! Nice to meet you how are you feeling today? I hope you are fine and ready to work. Let’s start. Today’s lesson will be devoted to shops and shopping.

1. Listen to the key words and repeat them, pay attention to the pronunciation.

T-shirt, top, trainers, trousers

Adjectives: long/short, baggy/

Answer the question; What are your favourite clothes (to ask 3-5 pupils).

T: Now you can see a tongue twister on the blackboard. Write down it in your copy books. First of all I will read it then you have to repeat after me. So, let’s start. Chopstick shops stock chopsticks. OK, not bad. Now try again but faster.

T: Listen to the dialogues and your task is to understand what Adam, Zeki, Rachael and Tania has bought?

Rachel:   Yes, I'm looking for tops.

Assistant: What size are you?

Tania:    Oh, come on! Try it on. Rachel:   I’m not sure. How much is it?

Tania:    Eight pounds.

Rachel:   Oh, all right. Can I try this one on, please?  

Assistant: Sure. The changing room is over there.

B)  Rachel tries the top on.

Rachel:   Is it okay? What do you think? Is it long enough?

Tania:     It's fine, Rachel. It really suits you. Honestly.

Rachel:   All right. I'd like this one, please.

The girls meet the boys later.

Rachel:   Hi there. We got a couple of tops. What did you get?

Adam:    Zeki got a computer game and I bought the new

Dido album.

Tania: Dido!?

Zeki: Yeah, Adam's in love with Dido.

Adam: No, I'm not!

Zeki: She's old enough to be your granny.

Adam: Very funny!

Rachel: Oh, stop it you two! Let's go home.

T:  Each modern city or even town is a shoppers’ paradise with plenty of large department stores as well as thousands of smaller shops. Let’s name the types of shops.

T:You are shown the cards. Look carefully at the cards and guess what type of shop is this.

T: Now, let’s read the text.

Not long ago people used to go to various shops for different foods and household items. These shops are: the bakers, the butcher's, the greengrocer's, the fish-monger's, the daily, the confectionery, etc. Nowadays another kind of shop has appeared — the supermarket.

A supermarket is a very big shop with different depart­ments. People can buy both food and other necessary goods there. You can see lots of different goods there: cans of beans, peas, meat, juke, beer, coke; jars of jam or pickles; bottles of water and soft drinks; boxes of cereal and chocolate; packs of flour, various kinds of sausages, cheese, dairies, fish; loaves of bread, buns, cakes, rolls; bars of chocolate; bunches of bananas, carrots, grapes; kilogram’s of apples, oranges, cucumbers and tomatoes and many other things.

When customers enter a supermarket, they get a trol­ley to carry the things they will choose to buy. There are aisles with shelves of products and goods. Buyers go along the aisles pushing their trolleys and choosing things they need. You can ask a shop-assistant if you don't know where things you need are.

When you have put bunches, tins, cans, bottles and boxes of food into the trolley, you take them to the checkout point, a check-desk, and pay for your purchases to the cashier who gives you a receipt [ri'si:t]. You can buy all you need as quickly as possible. Often food and other goods in the supermarket are cheaper than those in a small shop or in a green market.

T: Your task is to compare a supermarket and a small shop, now, let’s try to retell the text.

T: We are going to listen to the dialogues you’ve prepared at home. And after listening be ready to tell in what shop the conversation takes place.

-  No, thanks.

T: Thank you. Your dialogues were very interesting. So, we revised one more time different types of shops and now your task is to watch and to listen a guide about shopping areas in London.

T: After watching the video, can you tell me what are the most popular shopping areas in London? What shop would you like to visit?

T: I think it’s a good time for you to relax and sing a song.

Money is very important in shopping, because shopping is really impossible without money so let’s sing a song “Money, money” together with the famous group “ABBA”.

I work all night, I work all day, to pay the bills

to be a single penny left for me
