THE SCARY CHARACTERS

Aims/Objectives:

 -to produce and extend the vocabulary on the topic;

 -to develop speaking skills;

 -to help students to focus on fluency when speaking;

 -to assist the development of imagination and creative skills.

Learning outcomes: by the end of the lesson Ss (students) will be able to:

 - speak about Halloween characters;

-work in groups;

-work in a team.

Age Group: 8-11 years old Ss (students)

Level: A1

Timing: 45 minutes

Materials/Aids:

 1) copies of handouts and pens/pencils;

 2) pictures and flashcards of  Halloween characters ;

 3) chalkboard or flipchart paper,

 4) notebook, TV-set;

 5) crayons, markers, colored pencils.

    Procedure:

1. Introduction.

1. Ice-breaker. Group work.

Join the students into two groups and ask the questions:

-Do you like holidays?

-What do you know about Halloween?

-Have you ever celebrated it?

-What Halloween characters do you know?

Can you continue a sentence adding one word? The sentence is “I’m a monster.” Do this task in your groups, each group member is expected to expand the sentence adding one word.

2. Prepare the video or pictures of  Halloween, especially Halloween characters. (HO1) Ask your students to name them and guess the topic of the lesson. Write it on the chalkboard.

2. Presenting the vocabulary. Listening (Watching  the video).

       3.Watch the presentation and  name the Halloween characters.

3. Game competitions.

Game 1.Tell the students they are going to find out which transport is better- a car or a broom.(HO2)

Game 2.Each group chooses two representatives and they make mummies from toilet paper. Then everyone decides whose mummy is better.

Game 3. You need one representative from each team. The task is to drink  “a magic drink”. That one wins who drinks faster.(HO3)

Game 4. “What’s in the box?” The students watch the video game and guess what Halloween character  is in the box. They get a candy for each correct answer.(HO4)

Game 5. The music sounds and the students give the broom to each other one by one. The music stops and that student who has the broom in his hands leaves the game. That student wins who is the last in game.

4. Song.

Tell the students to sing the song “Halloween is here” and repeat all the movements which are on the video.(HO5)

5. Speaking.

Tell the students they are going to create Halloween character and describe it.

Do the project work about Halloween characters . Present your project in groups.

6. Conclusion.

Which transport is better- a car or a broom?

For this game you need one representative frem each team. You give a car on a rope to one pupil and a broom on a rope to another one. Their task is to pull the rope to themselves as fast as possible.

Pupils get a glass of juice which they have to drink from a pipe as fast as possible.

Hi, kids! Halloween is here, so we’re going to play a game called what’s in the box. There are 4 spooky Halloween creatures inside the box. I’ll give you two hints, so you can guess what each one is. Are you ready for the first one? Here are the two hints:
