Ethnic groups of Ukraine

What are ethnic group?Ethnic group are people who belong to a certian ethnic group and follow to traditional elements of culture. The emergence of ethnographic groups is due to the historical features of the development of individual territorial groups of a individual nationality or nation. Usually groups have a self-name.

Type of ethnic group Podolians. Boyki. Hutsuls. Lemkos. Polishchuks

Podolians. Podolians have been living on Podol. The ancestors of modern Podolians began to inhabit these areas probably in the 3-4 century before them. Traditional clothes are rich decorated, decorated with embroidery.

Boyki On the north and south Karpathian in the valleys of the rivers Limnytsia, San and Uzh are location villages of Boyki. Who were the distant ancestors of modern Boyki is still unknown.

Hutsuls. They are called Ukrainian mountaineers. Hutsuls are freedom-loving and independent. Guests are welcome. People-fireworks - this is probably about them. Hutsuls pay a lot of attention to clothes: they like to dress up. Lot`s men jackets are embroidered with gold and decorated with pompoms.

Lemkos. The 80s and 90s of the last century are often called the beginning of the renaissance of the Lemkos people. According to one version, the ancestors of the Lemkos were old tribes of white Chorvat who lived on the slopes of the Karpathian Mountains. Today, some Lemkos live in Ukraine, others in Poland, and still others in Slovakia.

Polishchuks. The Polishchuks are an ethnographic group of Ukrainians and Belarusians located in the region of the Ukrainian-Belarusian border. Polissya includes features of both Ukrainian and Belarusian cultures.
