Edinburgh developed as Scotland’s legal and political centre and gained the status of ‘royal burgh’ from Robert the Bruce. Despite being the capital of Scotland, Edinburgh is not the biggest Scottish city, Glasgow is!
The Royal Mile is the main street of Edinburgh.
When you arrive, the first thing you see is Edinburgh Castle, on hills. Hundreds of millions of years ago the hills in Edinburgh were volcanoes. Today the volcanoes are quiet. The One o’clock Gun in Edinburgh Castle fires every day at exactly One o’clock except on Sundays.
Edinburgh is a vibrant city with many attractions to entertain visitors including the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Edinburgh film festival, Edinburgh book festival, the Edinburgh Fringe and of course the World famous Edinburgh International Arts festival.
The City is also famous for it's shopping, hospitality and night life. But at its heart is its rich history with figures such as Robert the Bruce, Mary Queen of Scots, Burke and Hare the body snatchers, Sean Connery and J. K. Rowling.
