                                                Icons in the UK

We love England and everything connected with the United Kingdom. This country has many symbols like tea, cricket, James Bond, Big Ben and so on. Here is a number of cultural icons of Great Britain.

 

1.                                                      Telephone Box.

Many foreign visitors have always associated the red phone box with British national culture. It was designed by architect Gibber Scott in the 1920-s and it achieved its perfection in 1936. There are 16 different designs for the red London telephone box in various sizes and materials.

The kilt is a traditional kind of skirt worn by men in Scotland. The kilt is a symbol of courage, freedom and history of Celtic culture. Depending on the occasion, the kilt is normally worn with accessories such as a belt, a jacket, a small knife and special footwear.

The creator of the modern police force was the Conservation politician Sir Robert Peel, who held the post of Home Secretary in the 1820’s.
