Westminster Abbey is the heart of London, one of the most beautiful buildings in London. It was founded in the 11th century. Here you can see the tombs of many British kings and queens. Many great English scientists are buried here ( Newton, Darwin, Watt). In the Poetsґ Corner the famous English poets and writers are buried.
Built in 1705 as Buckingham House for the duke of the same name, this palace became the official London home of the British Royal family. When the flag is flying on the top the Queen is in. There are 661 rooms in it. It is dominated by the 25m-high Queen Victoria Memorial at the end of the Mall.
The London Eye is the world’s biggest observation wheel situated on the banks of the river Thames, in London. It gives visitors a wonderful bird’s eye view of the whole of the city and the surrounding area. The London Eye is 135 metres high. It has a diameter of 120 metres. It is made up of thirty-two fully enclosed capsules. Each capsule can hold twenty-five people. It operates on continuous rotations lasting thirty minutes. The London Eye was formally opened by the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, on the 31st of December 1999. But it was opened to the public in 2000.
